Octopus Keyboard brings a BlackBerry 10 styled keyboard to the iPhone

I may be in the minority, but I think RIM seems to be on the right track with their recently unveiled BlackBerry 10 operating system. There's nothing in it exactly groundbreaking, but at least RIM appears to be building on a solid foundation for the future.

Whether or not BlackBerry 10 is enough to save the reeling company still remains to be seen, but at the very least it's a good attempt by the Waterloo, Ontario based smartphone maker.

As a testament to how much better BlackBerry 10 is when compared to previous BlackBerry software, a jailbreak tweak has been created that actually emulates the functionality of a BlackBerry. Has that ever been done before?

Octopus Keyboard is an upcoming jailbreak tweak that seeks to bring RIM's new gesture based predictive typing to iPhone users. The tweak is still in the early stages of development, but developer, Mario Hros, was kind enough to give me sneak peak of what he's been concocting.

Take a look inside for a full video walkthrough of Octopus Keyboard in action...

We love our Windows readers and viewers, and to prove it we've created a video tutorial that shows you how to downgrade an iPhone 4S or iPad 2 using RedSn0w 0.9.11b1 on Windows.

pod2g confirms that the upcoming A5 jailbreak works with iOS 5.1.1

And the good news just keeps rolling in... hot of the heels of pod2g's new iPad (iPad 3) untethered jailbreak video, he's now confirming that his jailbreak works with Apple's newly released iOS 5.1.1 firmware as well.

This means that anyone who buys a new iPad, iPhone 4S, or iPad 2 with 5.1.1 pre-installed, or anyone who accidentally updated to iOS 5.1.1 without saving their SHSH blobs will still be able to jailbreak once the tool is released...

AutoProtect automatically disables your iPhone’s passcode when on your home Wi-Fi network

If the title to this post seems a little familiar, you're not imagining things. AutoProtect is a tweak that works very much like Filippo Bigarella's CleverPin, in that it auto-disables the passcode lock once it senses you're on a "friendly" Wi-Fi network.

Although it's certainly not an original idea, AutoProtect works well from my testing, and provides you with a nice balance of convenience and peace of mind that's often hard to come by...

Silence Notification Center alerts with DoNotDisturb

Silencing annoying audible notifications and squashing banner alerts? There's a jailbreak tweak for that.

DoNotDisturb does exactly as its name implies — prevents Notification Center alerts from causing any disturbance.

Dashtweet now available on Cydia

[tube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OskpEbycyek[/tube]

Although it was the first widget exclusively developed for Dashboard X that I was able to test, Dashtweet is actually the second Dashboard X widget to appear on Cydia after Clock Widget.

Dashboard X is a new widget platform that allows you to add widgets directly to your iOS device's Home screen. This allows you to customize your iPhone similar to the way that Android devices allow to toy with various widgets.

Dashtweet, as its name suggests, is a Twitter widget that allows you to tweet directly from your Home screen. You can now get it for free from Cydia's BigBoss repo. Be sure to check out our full walkthrough of Dashtweet as well.

VolumeColor: change the color of the iPhone’s volume HUD

You can safely file this one under the "not necessarily useful, but nonetheless interesting" tweak of the day. VolumeColor is a recent Cydia release that allows you to alter the color of your volume HUD.

It's also not that original, as I'm pretty sure I've seen such functionality in another tweak before, though its name currently escapes me.

Anyhow, feel free to take a look at our video walkthrough of VolumeColor inside...
