Fix for evasi0n Weather app bug on the way

Earlier today, we started receiving reports that folks were having issues with their Weather app after jailbreaking. It's been the one glitch in an otherwise flawless execution of the evasi0n tool.

The issue appears to be limited to iPhones—the iPad actually gains Weather app functionality—and is only affecting some users. But nevertheless, the brilliant evad3rs say they're on it...

evasi0n sees over 100,000 downloads in first 10 minutes

About 20 minutes ago, the moment everyone has been waiting for finally arrived: the evad3rs released their untethered iOS 6 jailbreak called 'evasi0n.' Now, everyone with a device running iOS 6 or higher (except for the ATV) can jailbreak their devices.

And it seems like everyone wants to. Unless you got in within the first few minutes, you probably received the above error when trying to download the evasi0n utility. That's because there's over 270,000 people trying to access the site right now...

Next-gen iPad mini said to have a 324ppi Retina display

Taking a break from all of the jailbreak excitement this afternoon, we have a new report out of Taiwan claiming that sources close to Apple's panel suppliers have divulged new information about the next-generation iPad mini.

The 7.9-inch tablet has been extremely popular for Apple thus far, as supply is just now starting to catch up to demand three months after launch. And if this news is accurate, the next model is going to be an even bigger hit...

iPad mini shipping times drop to 1-3 days in some countries

Apple has had a hard time catching up with demand for its new iPad mini. Since the tablet debuted last November, supply has been extremely constrained, and shipping estimates only recently dropped below a month.

But things are starting to even out now—either due to Apple ironing out supply chain issues or a recent drop in demand—because the mini is now showing shipping times (in some countries) of just 1-3 business days...

Apple introduces new short AppStore.com URLs

Apple last week posted an announcement to its developer portal, informing app-makers that they can now use short (or 'vanity') URLs to send out links to their App Store apps. For instance, a link to the iWork app would be appstore.com/iwork.

Typically, links to Apple-hosted software are comprised of lengthy URLs with ID numbers—nearly impossible for anyone to remember. But Apple is hoping that these new short URLs will make it easier for developers to market their apps...

Evasi0n could drop at noon EST tomorrow

By now, most of you have probably already heard that Evasi0n will not be arriving today. The evad3rs tweeted this afternoon that the final countdown towards 'tomorrow's release' has begun.

Of course, they didn't give us any idea of what time to expect it tomorrow. But, as a few folks on Twitter have pointed out, the progress bar on the Evasi0n page is set to expire at noon tomorrow...

Football helmet sensor sends concussion warnings to your iPhone

This is pretty interesting, and fairly relevant considering the Super Bowl is later today. The folks over at Impakt Protective have come up with a g-force sensor that fits inside a helmet, and measures the impact a player sustains from a tackle or collision.

If a player is hit too hard, the sensor, which is appropriately named the Shockbox, will send a color-coded alert to a designated iPhone or other mobile device. Impakt is hoping that this will help curb the growing rate of sports-related head injuries...

How to watch the Super Bowl on your iPhone

Over 100 million people are expected to gather in front of their TV sets tomorrow to watch the Super Bowl. But for those of you that for one reason or another can’t get in front of a television, there’s other ways to catch the Big Game.

If you're going to have access to a computer, you can watch it there. The game will be streamed live via CBS Sports. No computer? No problem, iDB has you covered. We've compiled a list of ways to follow the action on your iPhone...

Kodak completes patent sale to Apple, Google consortium

By now, you've all likely heard about Kodak's patent sale. The one-time photography giant filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy last year, so it was forced to sell off a large chunk of its intellectual property to a consortium of companies to help pay off its debts.

The sale, which included over 1,100 digital imaging patents, was approved earlier this month by Judge Allan Gropper. And this week, Kodak announced that it had completed the deal, and it plans to exit bankruptcy within the next six months...

Apple overtakes Samsung as top US mobile phone vendor

According to market research firm Strategy Analytics, strong iPhone 5 sales and a record-breaking holiday quarter have pushed Apple ahead of Samsung in US mobile phone marketshare with a brawny 34%.

For the first time ever, the Cupertino company has become the largest mobile phone vendor in the United States. And for the first time since 2008, Samsung is not. We've got more on the report after the fold...

NPD: iPhone 5 was top selling smartphone in the US last quarter

Strategy Analytics reported earlier today that Apple passed Samsung as the top US mobile phone vendor for the first time ever last quarter. The move was attributed to the company's big holiday push and strong iPhone 5 sales.

How strong? Well according to the NPD Group, Apple's latest handset was the top selling smartphone in the final quarter of last year. It accounted for 43% of all iPhone sales, and nearly 2/3 of all post-paid smartphones above $199...

New theory makes a case for a larger iPhone

It's easy to write off the recent rumors of the iPhone Plus (English translation of 'iPhone Math') as 'crazy.' After all, Apple just increased the iPhone's screen size to 4-inches last year, why would they go to 4.9-inches now and force developers to redesign their apps again?

Well according to the latest theory to make its way around the blogosphere, they wouldn't necessarily have to. Apple could theoretically make an iPhone with a 4.94-inch display, while keeping the iPhone 5's resolution, and developers wouldn't have to change a thing...
