iFixit gives the iPhone 5s the teardown treatment

Though we’ve still got a good 10 hours or so before the iPhone 5s officially goes on sale here in the US, the handset has already landed in Australia and other countries. And from what we're hearing , stock is extremely limited.

But wouldn't you know it, the folks over at iFixit managed to snag one, and have already started their teardown ritual. And you know what that means: hi-res photos of the new A7 chip, Touch ID sensor and more coming up...

iOS 7 vulnerability allows anyone to bypass Lock screen

The highly-anticipated iOS 7 update just started hitting iPhones and iPads yesterday, and already a major vulnerability has been discovered. Just like iOS 6.1 before it, the exploit involves a sequence of touches that allows a user to bypass a device's Lock screen.

The bug isn't easy to reproduce, but I was able to replicate it on my iPhone 4s. And despite having a passcode, it gave me access to a number of apps that contain personal data like photos, email, text messages, and both my Facebook and Twitter accounts...

Logitech teases first iOS 7-compatible game controller

In addition to its new design, and new features, iOS 7 includes a number of new tools for developers to take advantage of. And one that we're really excited about is support for third party game controllers.

Games in iOS 7 will be able to tie into Apple's Game Controller framework, allowing for the universal use of authorized 'MFi' devices. And today, Logitech and others began teasing their first MFi gamepads...

Target offering 16gb iPhone 5c for $79 with 2-year contract

If you're still in the market for an iPhone 5c, you might want to check out Target at some point tonight or tomorrow. The retailer is advertising that it will be offering the 16GB model of the handset for just $79.

Of course, that price comes with a two-year carrier contract. But it matches Walmart's pricing, which is one of the lowest we've seen for the smartphone outside of Sprint's $100 off promotion for new customers...

iPhone 5s sales go live in Australia with 7-10 day shipping estimates

Folks hoping to score an iPhone 5s anytime in the near future should probably opt to stand in line at their local retailer. The handset just became available for purchase in Apple's web store in Australia and other countries, and it's already showing 7-10 day shipping times.

The news comes after several months of reports claiming that the iPhone 5s would be in short supply at launch time, but it's starting to look like it could be this way for a while. Most models from Hong Kong and Singapore stores, for example, aren't shipping until October...

Google releases official Wallet app for iPhone

Google has released an official Google Wallet app for the iPhone this morning, bringing its popular mobile payment service to Apple's platform for the first time. The app includes several features, but it doesn't have all of the capabilities of its Android counterpart.

For example, you can't make in-store payments with the app—which isn't surprising, considering the feature is limited to only a handful of NFC-enabled Android devices. But it's worth noting. You can send money to other people, though, and utilize Google Offers...

Apple chairman Art Levinson to head up Google’s new health venture

Google announced yesterday that it's backing a new health-focused company called Calico. Like many of the tech giant's initiatives, it's a moonshot project, tasked with extending human life by combating things like aging and disease.

To make things even more interesting, current Apple chairman Arthur D. Levinson has been named CEO of the newly-founded venture. He'll oversee the entire operation, and will apparently be reporting directly to Google's Larry Page...

Untethered iOS 6.1.3/4 jailbreak shown off in video

If you're on iOS 6.1.3/4 and do not plan on upgrading to iOS 7 today in the hopes that a jailbreak will soon be available, you'll be happy to hear this. A primitive, albeit working, untethered jailbreak for the two firmwares has been caught on video.

Winocm, the lone hacker/developer who has been making a lot of noise on the jailbreak front in recent weeks, is responsible for the hack, which was posted on Reddit this morning. And while there'ss no ETA for a release yet, it's a very good sign...

Like the first installment, the game is based on the "Star Wars" movies, and allows players to join either the Pork Federation or the "Pork Side." There's more than 30 playable characters here, including Yoda, Jango Fett and more...

Apple posts new ‘Designed Together’ ad showcasing iOS 7, iPhone 5c

Following the release of iOS 7 this morning, Apple has posted a new advertisement showcasing the redesigned software alongside the all-new iPhone 5c.

The ad is entitled 'Designed Together,' and similar to Apple's recent 'Plastic Perfected' commercial, there's no voiceover or dialogue. Instead, all you hear is catchy background music as various elements of iOS 7 and the iPhone 5c are displayed across the screen...

A running list of major iOS 7 app updates

With Apple releasing iOS 7 today, a number of popular apps have posted updates in order to make sure they work properly with the new firmware. Some are just minor compatibility updates, and others are complete redesigns.

Instead of trying to do individual posts about each of these updates, we've decided to keep a running list of all of them so that you can get an idea of which applications have been updated and what the new versions look like...
