Best Buy to offer $100 for old phones towards purchase of iPhone 5s, 5c

It appears that Best Buy is on the verge of launching another smartphone trade-in promotion next week. According to a new report, the retailer will begin offering a minimum of $100 for select older, working handsets.

The catch here is that this trade-in money must be used to purchase a new iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c at the subsidized price—meaning you'll have to sign a new two-year agreement with one of Best Buy's carrier partners...

T-Mobile offering unlimited texting and 2G data in 100 countries

T-Mobile announced some major changes to its 'Un-carrier' smartphone plans last night. In addition to unlimited texting and data here in the US, the provider is now offering free unlimited texting and 2G data in 100 major countries.

"There’s just so many pieces of data that suggest to us this is a huge issue and pain point," says T-Mobile CEO John Legere. Legere notes that over 40% of customers turn off their phones while overseas in an effort to avoid high charges...

Apple’s iPhone trade-in program reportedly headed to the UK

Following rumors and speculation, Apple officially launched its iPhone trade-in program on August 30. Available in all US Apple Stores, customers can use the program to turn their old iPhones into cash—up to $280.

At the moment, Apple is only accepting trade-ins in the United States, but that could be changing soon. According to a new report, the company has plans to launch the program in the UK within the next few months...

New photos offer clear look at Apple’s upcoming iPad 5

I would say 'spoiler alert,' but I'm sure it's far too late for that. Photos of shells and components belonging to Apple's fifth-generation tablet have been bouncing around the web since January of this year.

But these new images offer an extremely clear look at the so-called iPad 5—perhaps the best we've seen thus far. And they give us a really good idea of what we can expect to see from Apple later this month...

Foursquare app updated with new design and real-time recommendations

Foursquare has issued a fairly significant update to its iOS client today, bringing the app to version 6.4. The update includes a number of improvements, including new UI and an all-new 'Nearby' button.

But easily the biggest addition to Foursquare 6.4 is the new Real-time recommendations feature. With it enabled, the app will send you useful location-based information, like current specials at a restaurant...

DisplaySearch: Retina iPad mini, larger iPhone in the pipeline

Highly-regarded NPD DisplaySearch issued a new research note late last night, offering up several bold predictions for Apple's future product plans. It believes the company is preparing to revamp the displays across nearly all of its devices.

Among the forecasts, the marketing research firm says it agrees with the rumors that the new iPad mini Apple is expected to unveil later this month will have a Retina display. And it also concurs with the ongoing 'larger iPhone screen' chatter...

Kik Messenger app updated for iOS 7 with new design, stickers and more

Adding to our growing list of iOS 7 updates, the Kik Messenger client for iPhone received a refresh last night, bringing it to version 6.7. The update brings the app's design more in line with the all-new firmware.

Kik's entire UI has been given the usual iOS 7 treatment, with fewer borders, flatter graphics and text, and empty white spaces. And the developers also gave it a new sticker package and stability improvements...

Whether you're a professional graphics designer, or a self-proclaimed YouTube expert, running dual displays can make doing your thing on the computer much easier. It allows you to see more content at once, and multitask more efficiently.

Now with this in mind, what if I told you there was a product that would allow you to run this kind of setup while on the go, using nothing but your existing iPad and laptop? Well it just so happens that there is, and it's called the SideCar...

Qualcomm backtracks on ’64-bit A7 is a marketing gimmick’ claims

Last week, Qualcomm's CMO Anand Chandrasekher made headlines for comments he made during an interview regarding Apple's new A7 processor. He called the chip a 'marketing gimmick,' and said 64-bit holds no real benefit for users.

But pundits were quick to challenge Chandrasekher, pointing to apps and games with A7 support as proof that the 64-bit architecture holds value. And Qualcomm must agree, because it has issued a statement backtracking on the claims...

iPad and iPad mini found to have most responsive tablet touchscreens

Apple's iPad mini has the most responsive tablet touchscreen, according to some new tests by Agawi. The app-streaming company recently ran it and several other slates through its rigorous TouchMark benchmark to measure the field.

The mini registered a 75ms delay on the latency test, coming in just 6ms ahead of the iPad 4, which posted an 81ms lag. And the rest of the competition was pretty far behind, with the Surface RT at 95ms and the Kindle Fire HD at 114...

Beautiful Jony Ive-designed Leica M camera revealed ahead of charity auction

It's been more than a year since we first received word that Apple's design wizard Jony Ive was going to be helping Leica design a limited-edition camera. The device, along with many others, was to be auctioned off for charity.

But the radio silence on the project ended today, with the German optics company revealing the 'The Leica M for (RED).' It's a one-of-a-kind camera, designed by Ive, and it's set to be auctioned off at Sotheby's late next month...

Google’s Eric Schmidt says Android is more secure than the iPhone

Back in August, an unclassified US government report on mobile security surfaced with data showing the various malware threats discovered on different platforms. And Android took the top spot, accounting for nearly 80% of all threats.

With that in mind, it's not surprising that Eric Schmidt garnered some laughs yesterday during a question-and-answer session at the Gartner Symposium, when he said that the Android platform was more secure than Apple's iPhone...
