MilkyWay 4 windowed multitasking tweak now available for rootless jailbreaks

Do you value enhanced multitasking features on your mobile devices? If so, then you might be excited to learn that MilkyWay4-rootless jailbreak tweak by akusio is now available and supports the latest rootless jailbreaks such as Dopamine and palera1n on iOS & iPadOS 15.x.

MilkyWay 4-rootless.

When we previously showed you MilkyWay 3, it only supported iOS & iPadOS 13 and 14 devices. The tweak brought a powerful windowed multitasking user experience to jailbroken handsets everywhere, making it feel more like a desktop than a mobile tablet or phone.

Every window includes macOS-like buttons at the top left that can be used to close, minimize, and maximize individual windows, among other things.

To use MilkyWay 4-rootless, users need only activate the App Switcher and then tap and hold on the app or app icon to reveal an option that says “launch as window.” Doing so brings the app out of the App Switcher and into a floating window that looks like what you see in the screenshot example above.

While the iPad at least supports side-by-side apps, the dimensions of these apps aren’t always ideal for your use case. MilkyWay 4-rootless lets you move and resize windows to your liking to enable personalized workflows that work for you. It’s also worth noting that iPhone users don’t have access to side-by-side multitasking at all.

After you install MilkyWay 4-rootless, there will be a new preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure a few different settings:

MilkyWay 4 Prefs.

Things you can do here include:

  • Enabling or disabling MilkyWay 4-rootless on demand
  • Enabling or disabling dark mode support
  • Configuring custom scaling for individual apps

MilkyWay 4-rootless is certified to work on iPads by the developer, which is something to keep in mind, but it seemed to work just fine on our iPhone XS with some initial testing (non-in-depth). It seems likely that iPhones will be officially supported in the future if the developer can find testers to ensure compatibility.

If you’re interested in giving MilkyWay 4-rootless a try, then you can download the tweak for free from akusio’s personal repository using your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS & iPadOS 15.x devices utilizing the rootless dynamic.
