How to use the same FaceTime ringtone on Mac and iPhone

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to change your FaceTime ringtone on your Mac so that it sounds the same as your iPhone or iPad.

FaceTime ringtone

Many people set up custom ringtones on their iPhones, but when the call gets forwarded to their Mac via Continuity, they end up hearing something completely different from what they do on their iPhones.

To fix this, you’ll have to match both ringtones. And it also simply sounds better when you hear the same ringtone across your devices. With that setup, each of your devices going off at the same time sounds like a surround sound system throughout your house rather than sounding like a menagerie of annoying sounds all going off at once.

If you want all your devices to use the same ringtone, you need to know which one you’re using on your iOS device first. To check:

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap Sounds & Haptics.
  3. Tap Ringtone and take note of what ringtone you have selected. You’ll want to use this same ringtone on your Mac.

Note: iOS 26 adds six new variations of the default Reflections ringtone: Buoyant, Dreamer, Pond, Pop, Reflected, and Surge. The latest version of macOS Tahoe 26 doesn’t have these. So, select any other tone on iOS to match it with Mac.

Now that you know what ringtone you’re using on iOS, you can find the same ringtone on Mac and apply it to the FaceTime app there. This will make the same ringtone sound from your Mac whenever you get incoming FaceTime, FaceTime Audio, or Phone calls on your Mac.

  1. Launch the FaceTime app on your Mac or the new Phone app in macOS Tahoe.
  2. From the top menu bar, click the app name next to the Apple icon  and select Settings or Preferences.
  3. Click the Ringtone drop-down box, and select the ringtone you saw on your iOS device.

And that’s all there is to it! Now, your Mac has the same ringtone as your iOS device.
