What even was that!
Tesla just showed off its new Roadster, and the presentation blew millions of minds, since it’s something none of us have ever seen outside of sci-fi movies and comics. From tech titans like Google’s CEO to politicians, brands, and memers, everyone seems to be talking about it.
The new Tesla Roadster is engineered in collaboration with Elon Musk’s rocket company SpaceX, and it can stay upside down on a ramp thanks to a multi-mode suction system. It also has cold-gas thrusters, which enable it to do a backflip and even fly over a lined row of Tesla Semi, Cybertruck, Cybercab, Model Y, and Model 3.
I have been scrolling X ever since the launch event and collecting the best Tesla Roadster images I could find. Here are over 65 wallpapers that will bring the marvel of human engineering to your phone and computer display.

A bit of backstory: Tesla began production of the Roadster, its first electric car, in 2008, and by 2012 it had built about 2,450 units. The original Roadster used the chassis of the Lotus Elise, with Tesla’s proprietary electric powertrain and battery tech. Estimates suggest around 1000 are still drivable today, though many have had their batteries replaced.
The original Roadster paved the way for the Tesla Model S and Model X, which truly proved that electric cars can be a viable, no-compromise option in modern times. The S and X did extremely well, which led to the Model 3 and Y, the latter of which is consistently among the best-selling cars of any kind (not just electric) in the world.
Beyond these mass-market electric vehicles, Tesla showed off the next version of the Roadster in 2017, with plans to put it in customers’ hands in 2020. Well, that never happened…
Fast forward almost a decade, past a global pandemic and a couple of terrible wars, and in 2026 Tesla finally showed off the Roadster again. This new one looks and feels nothing like the 2017 version. Plus, it’s been ‘unveiled’ again, with production starting in 2028 at the Tesla Giga Texas factory. So, even more waiting…
But all the time delays aside, what was shown at this new Tesla Roadster event is definitely worth the wait.
The new Roadster will come in three variants:
- Performance (seats 2, 0 to 60 mph in under 1.6 seconds)
- Thrust (seats 2, 0 to 60 mph in under 0.9 seconds)
- Rocket (seats 1, 0 to 60 mph in under 0.59 seconds)
Full pricing is still TBD, but you can reserve the Performance version by paying a fully refundable $5,000 today, with $45,000 due in 10 days. The Thrust version will be produced in limited numbers and also requires the same $5,000 deposit today, with $245,000 payable in 10 days. The Rocket version is invite-only!
This is as exciting as engineering can get right now. Musk calls the Roadster “the best of the last human-driven cars,” and Tesla used the term “The Last Best Driver’s Car.” Musk and his team are hopeful that all other cars will pivot to self-driving in the near future, with people manually driving cars only like how some people still fancy riding horses! Tesla leads in point-to-point self-driving, and no other company has anything close yet (though several are working on similar systems).
My words won’t do justice to how incredible the live event was — maybe one of the best ever — only next to the original iPhone unveiled by Steve Jobs in 2007. Just watch the videos on X or Instagram to see the new Roadster flip, jump, and fly/hover! Or, head over to tesla.com/roadster to learn more.
Now, back to the wallpapers: I sourced most of them from Tesla’s website and their official X account. The rest are from people who attended the live event, with their X username under the wallpaper. A couple are also AI-generated, and I have included their creators’ names under the image as well.
