The Liquid Glass design language Apple introduced last year across its devices has received mixed feedback from users.

In response, Apple made changes in future OS 26 updates and even added simple Clear and Tinted options, giving users two styles to choose from.

However, that wasn’t enough!

Many people on X and Reddit regularly complained that they missed the super-glassy look in the initial iOS 26 and macOS 26 beta, and that the later versions took it away. And then there are many, including me, who faced legibility issues with text on a transparent background.

Learning from that, Apple has added a simple slider in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, giving users full control over how much Liquid Glass style they prefer.

You can adjust it to make it super glassy, translucent, or something in between.

Adjust the Liquid Glass look on iPhone or iPad

  1. Update your device to iOS 27 or iPadOS 27.
  2. Open the Settings app.
  3. Tap Appearance.
  4. Tap Liquid Glass.
  5. Adjust the slider to your preferred level. The left side is more glassy, while the right side mutes the transparent look. Center is the default. As you adjust the level, you can preview the changes on the animation above.

Easter egg: Swipe up on the Apple headquarters image until you reach the rainbow image. Then, swipe up again (you’ll feel some resistance) to see ‘Moof!’ in the search box and a cute dogcow named Clarus. You’ll also see it on Mac.

Adjust the Liquid Glass look on Mac

  1. Update your Mac with an Apple silicon chip to macOS 27 Golden Gate. And if you don’t want to overwrite your existing macOS installation, consider installing macOS 27 on a second partition of the same Mac.
  2. Open System Settings and click Appearance.
  3. Adjust the Liquid Glass slider accordingly.

In case setting the Liquid Glass level to the rightmost side is still too transparent or glassy for you, consider turning on Reduce Transparency or Increase Contrast in iOS or macOS display accessibility settings.
