Find out how to revert all changes you have made to the Apple Mail app toolbar by restoring the default set of icons.
For starters, the toolbar in the stock Mail app on Mac is the top row of icons (and/or text), which provides shortcuts to compose a new email, reply to a message, mark emails as unread, delete an email, and more. Some people also refer to it as the taskbar, but Apple uses the term toolbar, and that’s what we’ll address it as.
You may want to get to the default toolbar if you have made too many changes and want to revert them all. Returning to the default toolbar also gives you the chance to start over with the customizations and make just the few adjustments that you really want.
Restore the default Mail app toolbar on Mac
- Open the stock macOS Mail app.
- Click View > Customize Toolbar from the top menu bar. Or, right-click over an empty spot in the toolbar and select Customize Toolbar.
- Drag the default set of icons into the toolbar and drop it there when you see a green plus button. Finally, click Done.
Of course, if you want to make any customizations, you can do that even after restoring the default set of options.
Secondly, if you’re looking to start over from scratch, you can even consider resetting the entire Mail app to factory settings and begin with a clean slate.
