Apple’s macOS Tahoe 26 operating system packs a new Mac wallpaper and an aerial screen saver, called “Tahoe Day,” that features breathtaking scenery in motion.

Apple today released the third developer beta of its new macOS Tahoe 26 operating system due this fall, and it packs a new “Tahoe Day” screen saver and wallpaper.
Both the aeril screen saver nd the wallpaper showcase the beauty of Lake Tahoe in California (which inspired the macOS Tahoe name), with the crystal clear lake contrasting its rocky shoreline and snow-capped mountains in the background.
macOS Tahoe brings the new “Tahoe Day” wallpaper and screensaver
The new wallpaper is set as the default after installing macOS Tahoe beta 3. Of course, you can manage it like you would other wallpapers on your Mac, by venturing into System Settings > Wallpaper. “Tahoe Day” is available in the “Landscape” section. The wallpaper should include a dark version, but it’s unavailable in beta 3.
Like with other moving wallpapers on macOS, this one animates when you go to the Lock Screen and transitions smoothly into the static wallpaper after unlocking. To use the Tahoe Day screen saver, go to System Settings > Screen Saver and find it in the “Landscape” section.
macOS Tahoe is launching this fall
macOS Tahoe should be available to the public alongside iOS 26 and other updates, which should drop ahead of new iPhones in September.
It brings a glassy redesign, Mac versions of the iPhone’s Journal and Phone apps, a new Games app, a much more powerful Spotlight and a bunch of under-the-hood changes across system apps like Messages, Notes and Safari. macOS 26 also brings live activities from a nearby iPhone and lets you use iPhone controls within the Mac’s Control Center. For more changes, peruse our WWDC25 roundup.
Mac owners in the European Union won’t be getting live activities this fall for the same reason they’re still waiting for iPhone Mirroring: compliance uncertainity surrounding the Digital Markets Act.
