In a post shared to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, the AltStore team announced that it had released an update to the AltStore PAL alternate App Store in the form of version 2.1.1.
From what we can gather, AltStore PAL version 2.1.1 is intended to offer bug fixes with respect to installing apps, especially when they’re coming from third-party sources, such as Trusted Sources that were introduced in a recent update.
The full change log for AltStore PAL version 2.1.1 is as follows:
– Fixed duplicate “New Update Available” notifications
– Fixed restoring offloaded apps
– Fixed updating apps under certain conditions
– Fixed not unlocking certain Patreon benefits
There are two ways for users to update to the latest version of AltStore PAL, according to the project’s website. Those include either allowing the app to update automatically in the background, or visiting the Settings app to manually force the update to take place.
Automatic background updates are made possible by visiting Settings → App Installation and turning on the App Updates option under Automatic Downloads. Manual updates can be performed by navigating to Settings → App Installation → AltStore and tapping the Update Now option under App Information.
AltStore PAL differs from the AltStore sideloading utility. The AltStore PAL installation process involves using the regular AltStore, but they are separate projects.
Expanding further, AltStore PAL isn’t available in the United States and only applies to the European Union due to regulation changes that forced Apple’s hand to allow it in that region. The regular AltStore (non-PAL) allows users to sideload apps on their device with their Apple ID for a limited period and is available worldwide, while AltStore PAL is an alternative App Store.
In addition to allowing apps that may not be permissible in the regular App Store, AltStore PAL will also host Epic Games’ Fortnite Mobile at some point in the future.
