NetworkManagerReborn lets jailbroken iPhone users control which cellular radios their handset connects to

Around five years ago, we showed you a jailbreak tweak called NetworkManager that gave users a little more control over their iPhone’s cellular radio selection, and this week, we’re excited to see that concept revived for modern rootless jailbreaks.

NetworkManagerReborn

Enter NetworkManagerReborn, a free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer nixuge that puts you behind the helm of how your iPhone switches between different cellular radios.

Perhaps you fancy higher data speeds over battery life, or maybe you’re the complete opposite? With NetworkManagerReborn, you can choose how your iPhone connects to various cellular radios and when for your ideal performance.

Just like the original NetworkManager, which could force your iPhone to stay connected to 2G, 3G, or 4G regardless of how strong another cellular radio connection might be, NetworkManagerReborn does the same, albeit with support for 5G networks and the latest rootless jailbreaks for iOS & iPadOS 15 and 16.

With it, let’s say you have 4 bars of 4G LTE and only 1 bar of 5G. In this case, your iPhone would likely default to 4G LTE, favoring reduced performance for the benefit of battery life, but with NetworkManagerReborn, you can force your iPhone to stay connected to 5G regardless of signal strength, leaving the slower 4G LTE in the dust.

Once installed, NetworkManagerReborn adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure a few options to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Enable or disable the following modules from the Control Center module:
    • Show 2G GSM
    • Show 3G GSM
    • Show 2G CDMA
    • Show 3G CDMA
    • Show 4G LTE
    • Show 5G NR Standalone
    • Show 5G NR Non-Standalone
    • Show 5G NR
    • Enter custom text for the auto network mode
  • Save any changes you’ve made

Citing the /r/jailbreak release post, nixuge had permission from the previous tweak developer to release and share the new NetworkManagerReborn tweak, and we’re super happy they did. With today’s 5G networks easily passing gigabit speeds, there are times when dropping down to the slower 4G LTE cellular radio isn’t ideal, even when 5G signal isn’t great.

If you can relate, then you may want to give the NetworkManagerReborn jailbreak tweak a try. It’s available as a free download from nixuge s personal repository via your favorite package manager app and is also open source on the developer’s GitHub page.

Anyone not already using nixuge’s personal repository can add it to their package manager app of choice by using the URL provided below:
