OutlookFullName forces Microsoft Outlook banners to show full names instead of initials

When using the Microsoft Outlook email client on the iPhone or iPad, you might notice how the app displays the recipient/sender initials in the banners instead of a profile picture when the latter isn’t available.

Unfortunately, those initials aren’t always useful in determining who the message is from or to, requiring you to open the message to see the full name. This can be a major accessibility oversight if you prefer for information to be more front-and-center.

Fortunately, iOS developer b4db1r3 has released and free jailbreak tweak called OutlookFullName that lets the end user fix the unhelpful initials by replacing them with known text strings.

OutlookFullName adds a preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure it to auto-replace certain initial codes with expanded text strings. For example, you could configure SP to spell out as Sebastien Page or you could even configure it to display a business name instead of one or two letters:

The formatting of your text should be IE:Initial Example with each entry separated by commas. So it would look something like this: IE:Initial Example, IE:Initial Example, IE:Initial Example.

Examples of the tweak in use are depicted in the screenshot examples above, and while it doesn’t always look as good as the simple initials, it can make it easier to ascertain who is the message is from or for at a glance.

Those interested in giving OutlookFullName a try can download it for free from b4db1r3’s personal repository via their favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken devices running the Microsoft Outlook app from the App Store and is not intended for any other email clients.
