The palera1n jailbreak gets a TUI, offering a more approachable user interface than the regular CLI

The palera1n checkm8 bootrom exploit-based jailbreak, unlike the checkra1n jailbreak before it, has long been a command line interface (CLI)-based jailbreak tool. This means you must use Terminal to use it, which can be off-putting for those uncomfortable with running Terminal commands.

The palera1n jailbreak finally has a fully functional TUI by HAHALOSAH.

But recently, the palera1n team seems to be working to combat this by way of a Terminal user interface (TUI), which is akin to a graphical user interface (GUI), except that instead of graphics, digital information in the command line represents ‘images’ that make user interactions in the Terminal window more approachable than walls of text would be.

The TUI still requires the use of Terminal to run the palera1n jailbreak, but ordinary users will find the interface easier to follow because it guides users through the jailbreak process by way of illustrations represented by digital characters much like in palen1x and bootra1n for Windows instead of requiring the user to input certain commands, flags, and other potentially confusing or forgettable things.

While this isn’t a GUI, it’s the next best thing.

The latest Commit that added the TUI was posted to the palera1n GitHub page late last night by iOS developer @HAHALOSAH, who is known for their nekoJB KFD exploit-based jailbreak tool for arm64 devices running iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.8.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the only instance of the palera1n jailbreak getting much-needed TLC. Just over the weekend, it was announced that palera1n would support checkm8-vulnerable Apple TVs, which means it will soon be possible to jailbreak your Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K (1st generation) with palera1n.

Palera1n is a semi-tethered jailbreak supporting checkm8 iPhones and iPads running iOS & iPadOS 15 through 16 and iPadOS 17. Being semi-tethered, you can reboot your device into a non-jailbroken state, but you will need a computer to return to a jailbroken state again. For this reason, the semi-untethered Dopamine v2 jailbreak is an attractive alternative, as you can re-jailbreak without a computer. Still, the checkm8 exploit harnessed by palera1n is a more powerful and more reliable exploit.
