SponsorBlock for YouTube Music can skip unwanted segments between media in YouTube Music for iOS

The YouTube Music app, much like its bigger brother the YouTube app, puts ads in between your precious media consumption; and worse, the number of ads has been ratcheting up in recent years.

iOS developer dayanch96 wanted a workaround, and remembering the SponsorBlock jailbreak tweak for the YouTube app, they were inspired to make SponsorBlock for YouTube Music to give users the option to skip non-musical segments in YouTube Music videos.

As you can see in the screenshot examples above, the tweak automatically detects when content appears to go off topic and then attempts to skip over it.

One thing worth noting is that SppnsorBlock for YouTube Music gives users the ability to automatically block unwanted segments, or to selectively skip them in real time. Both options can enhance your media listening quality on the platform by reducing the number of interruptions you hear during consumption.

Configuring these options is done via a dedicated SponsorBlock preference pane found in the YouTube Music app:

Here, you can:

  • Enable or disable SponsorBlock for YouTube Music on demand
  • Choose whether SponsorBlock for YouTube Music blocks material automatically or asks you first
  • Configure the notification duration for which the “ask attempt” will appear

Those interested in giving SponsorBlock for YouTube Music a try can download it for free from the Havoc repository. The tweak supports the latest version of SponsorBlock for YouTube Music at the time of this writing on jailbroken devices running iOS & iPadOS 12-17. The tweak is also open source on GitHub for those interested in learning about how it works.

Please note that this tweak is not intended for the regular YouTube app. There is a separate SponsorBlock tweak for that app by iOS developer Ajay Ramachandran.
