There’ve been quite a few Siri-enhancing jailbreak tweaks over the years, but one that I’m particularly excited about is a new release dubbed SiriPlus by iOS developer @_Uckermark because it strives to improve iOS’ assistant’s usefulness.
As many of us already know, Apple is working overtime to bring AI-based integration to Siri in iOS & iPadOS 18, the major upcoming firmware update expected to launch later this year. But what if you didn’t have to wait?
SiriPlus is an ambitious project that replaces the ordinary Siri user experience with that of either OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini (whichever you happen to prefer).
As noted in the package depiction, SiriPlus offers users a powerful user experience because AI-based engines lend broad knowledge and personalized assistance as a result of being the world’s most powerful Large Language Models.
There’s a quick start mode integrated right into SiriPlus that defaults to Google Gemini, but if you’re a more advanced user, then you can input your own API Key to unlock faster response times and the ability to choose your AI engine.
So what can you expect to do with SiriPlus? Well as it turns out, the enhanced Siri with AI experience lets you actually chat with your Siri iOS assistant. But more than that, it can do all of the following things:
- Launch your favorite apps
- Draft emails from scratch
- List essential device information
- Add Calendar entries
- Search your Contacts list
- Initiate hands-free phone calls
- Open Maps and route to a destination
After you install SiriPlus, you’re also going to find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure a variety of options to your liking:
The things that you can do here include:
- Toggling SiriPlus on or off on demand
- Choosing a preferred AI:
- Managed (Google Gemini default)
- ChatGPT
- Google Gemini
- Entering an API Key
- Entering specific instructions
- Adjusting the context length by way of a slider (1024 characters by default)
- Toggling functions on or off:
- Send email
- System information
- Add Calendar entry
- Access contacts
- Place phone call
- Open Maps
- Reset chat context
- And more…
The developer notes that while SiriPlus itself doesn’t collect any information about you, users should be aware that the AI engines may have their own unique privacy policies and that they could collect information about you through SiriPlus. That said, if you’re concerned about that, then you should review the ChatGPT and/or Gemini privacy policies.
I am personally very excited about this because it promises a more engaging Siri user experience as opposed to just being told to search the web for stuff that Siri doesn’t have the programming to handle. For that reason, I think jailbreakers are going to love using SiriPlus and that it’s going to be worth every penny.
