TrollStore now available for Apple TVs running tvOS 14.0-16.6

Misaka project lead developer @straight_tamago has been doing a lot with tvOS recently, such as making an Apple TV-compatible Misaka for device customization on supported firmware.

TrollStore for Apple TV now available.

But just this afternoon, the developer took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the release of TrollStore for tvOS alongside an installer, which means that users can now Enjoy perma-signed apps on their Apple TV just like they already can on their iPhone or iPad.

In the post, @straight_tamago links to several GitHub pages, including one for TrollStore for tvOS, one for ldid for tvOS, and one for the Misaka for tvOS — the last of which is what you use to install TrollStore on your Apple TV.

Once installed, you will see interface prompts that look and feel a lot like how they do on the iPhone and iPad, such as installing the persistence helper and Idid.

As for supported firmware versions, it would appear that TrollStore for Apple TV supports tvOS versions 14.0-16.6 right out of the box, as there isn’t an installation method for newer firmware, as is the case with iOS & iPadOS.

With TrollStore on your Apple TV, you can now install unofficial apps from places besides the App Store and have them on your device permanently rather than having to re-sign them every seven days as you would normally need to do with sideloading apps like Sideloadly.

Since there are a lot fewer apps on the Apple TV than there are on the iPhone and iPad, and consequently a lot less interest in hacking these devices than iPhones and iPads, it will indeed be interesting to see how developers utilize this feat.
