KrashKop crash log viewer now available for non-jailbroken TrollStore devices

Almost one year ago, we showed you an app for jailbroken devices called KrashKop by iOS developer FoxFortMobile, which offered a modern crash reporting experience for end users wishing to share their crash logs and other useful information with developers for debugging purposes.

The KrashKop crash viewer app user interface.

While originally only intended for jailbroken handsets so that users could report jailbreak tweak crashes to developers, KrashKop now appears to be expanding to work on non-jailbroken devices by way of TrollStore’s powerful CoreTrust bug — the engine behind recent utilities such as RootHide’s Procursus-based bootstrap and the Serotonin “semi-jailbreak” that enables system tweak injection without a true jailbreak.

KrashKop also solves an important issue with lots of other crash reporters: starting with iOS & iPadOS 15, Apple has switched to a new crash log format carrying the .ips extension that is based on JSON. The best way to read these before KrashKop is by sending them to a Mac using the Console app to view them, but this is inconvenient and not everyone has a Mac.

With KrashKop, you can view and manage these newly formatted crash logs on-device without having to involve a computer, which makes mobile diagnostics easier for both users and developers alike.

It’s worth noting that KrashKop is merely a crash log viewer and that it doesn’t attempt to guess the source of your crash. Moreover, it doesn’t hook into anything, which keeps it lightweight and low risk to your bootstrapped environment.

Now that KrashKop works with TrollStore, crash logs extend into the new “semi-jailbreak” territory we’re seeing in current times as we await a full-fledged jailbreak. People are currently using jailbreak tweaks without a jailbreak via system tweak injection using only the CoreTrust bug, so some form of diagnostics was necessary for troubleshooting purposes.

If you’re interested in checking out the new KrashKop with TrollStore support, then you can head over to the app’s depiction page on the Havoc repository where you can find it as a free download. The app works with iOS & iPadOS 15.4 all the way up to 17.0.
