If you’re using the RootHide development team’s Procursus-based bootstrap, then you’ve likely noticed that Sileo and Zebra are your only package manager app options to pick from.
Attempting to expand users’ options is @Lrdsnow101, previously known for their work on the PureKFD package manager app for MacDirtyCow and kernel file descriptor (kfd) exploit-vulnerable devices, the iOS developer is now working on a Sileo alternative for the RootHide bootstrap called PurePKG.
We don’t know very much about PurePKG just yet because it was literally only just teased via a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), but we know it’s a Sileo alternative because of @Lrdsnow101’s response to iOS developer @haxi0smwhen asked about it:
In the screenshot teaser of PurePKG, we can clearly see the word “RootHide” under where the parameter says, “Jailbreak Type,” which brings us to believe that PurePKG may become more widely adopted on other jailbreaks besides the RootHide bootstrap in the future.
We can certainly assume that this package manager app will work with the Serotonin “semi-jailbreak,” which is effectively just systemwide tweak injection for the RootHide bootstrap, but it remains to be seen if this app will work with full-fledged jailbreaks such as Dopamine or XinaA15 v2.
Unlike Sileo, PurePKG appears to incorporate UI customization options so that it’s possible to colorize the app however the user may want to. This customization is paired with the option to change the app icon on demand.
The four tabs of the app include the Featured tab, the Browse tab, the Installed tab, and the Search tab. These navigational tabs will lead to specific interfaces where users can accomplish certain tasks, just as they can in package manager apps like Sileo and Zebra.
While we don’t know very much about PurePKG yet, we’re excited to see where the project goes from here and to see how it will compare against existing and well-established package manager apps that are already in use.
