Apple’s transition away from animal leather products in place of its more sustainable FineWoven lineup has been met with tons of criticism. So much so, that third-party manufacturers are quickly starting to fill the vacuum.
But our friends over at OtterBox have found a different approach. As announced at CES 2024, OtterBox will soon launch a new case lineup that looks and feels like leather but is instead made from nopal cactus.
According to OtterBox, Desserto cactus leather is an animal leather alternative that is more sustainable than animal leather and is also fully organic and environmentally friendly. It’s soft to the touch and already used in clothing, footwear, and purses, and will now be used to keep iPhones safe in OtterBox’s Symmetry series.
According to OtterBox, the durable material can withstand drops, wear, scuffs, and stains. Despite what looks like a luxurious case, they still feature a respectable 3X MIL-STD military drop protection rating.
In addition to cases that are made with Desserto cactus leather, OtterBox will offer Apple Watch bands and wallets that attach to the rear of matching OtterBox cases with Apple’s magnetic MagSafe technology.
OtterBox hasn’t announced a release date but promises that these new cases are “coming soon.” When available, they’ll be published on OtterBox’s website along with their other highly protective case offerings.

I love the feel of existing Symmetry series cases from OtterBox in my hand, so I can’t wait to get one of these in hand to check out. What are your thoughts? Share in the comments section down below.
