Apple rumored to preview Generative AI features for Siri at the WWDC24

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) will reportedly bring more personalization and natural conversations to Siri, and power a new “Apple-specific creational service.”

Apple should unveil Siri improvements powered by generative AI at the WWDC, its upcoming annual developer conference held in the summer.

The information comes from the tech news aggregator account “yeux1122” on Naver, which has a mixed track record, so approach this rumor with a pinch of salt.

Using large language models and generative AI should meaningfully enhance Siri’s natural language recognition while adding more personalization to Apple’s maligned digital assistant, “yeux1122” has it.

The leaker claims to have obtained this information from a related developer source. A generative AI version of Siri will run on Apple’s Ajax-based large language model.

These rumored new features, to be announced at the upcoming WWDC, will “add more personalization and natural conversations to Siri” and improve “management between devices,” likely by synchronizing conversation histories across devices.

A version of Siri powered by generative AI will also be capable of creating content from prompts and providing linkage “between various external services,” including various subscription-based services, probably through the use of APIs.

AppleGTP being tested internally

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed last year that Apple has been developing a generative artificial intelligence project with the goal of bringing ChatGPT-like capabilities to its Siri assistant. He provided no timeline for the project other than saying that the first generative AI-powered features will roll out in 2024.

If this sketchy post from yeux1122 is anything to go by, the iPhone maker will preview the first generative AI features for Siri this summer before releasing them to the public alongside iOS 18 and other OS updates coming in the fall.
