OWC’s new Express 1M2 USB4-based external storage drive exceeds 3,150MB/s

You can never have enough storage space, and Other World Computing knows that. That’s why we’re excited to share the news that the company is releasing the OWC Express 1M2.

OWC Express 1M2.

OWC’s Express 1M2 is the brand’s first USB 4-based bus-powered external drive, and not only that, it’s also the fastest single-blade NVMe drive to date with real world-speeds of up to 3151 megabytes per second. Achieving these speeds of course requires that you have a USB 4-equipped Mac or PC.

At first glance, you can see that the heat-dissipating aluminum enclosure is built with performance in mind — just look at those heat fins! The bare aluminum aesthetic also pairs nicely with modern desktop Mac computers, such as the Mac Studio pictured beside it, or the silver MacBoon Pro, etc.

Whether your computer is wired for USB-C or Thunderbolt, it can take full advantage of the OWC Express 1M2. The data speeds far surpass traditional SSD interfaces, supporting up to 8K video and high-resolution photo-editing over wire.

OWC offers the Express 1M2 either as an empty unit that you can add your own 2230, 2242, or 2280-sized NVMe M.2 SSD of up to 8TB of storage to, or you can order the unit pre-populated with an OWC Aura Ultra IV inside. Prices vary depending on the storage size you pre-populate with, and those options include:

  • Express 1M2 (empty) – $119.99
  • 1TB Express 1M2 – $219.99
  • 2TB Express 1M2 – $299.99
  • 4TB Express 1M2 – $529.99
  • 8TB Express 1M2 – $1,369.99

Other World Computing has a long history of providing quality computer storage solutions with blazing-fast speeds, and that’s why I’m confident that this will be a popular product among photographers and videographers alike who need expanded external storage with fast data transfer speeds.
