Make changes to the YouTube app’s user experience with the lightweight YTLite jailbreak tweak

If you’re a YouTube app user and you’re interested in an enhanced experience in the form of a lightweight jailbreak tweak, then a new release called YTLite by iOS developer dayanch96 might be of interest.

As noted in the release post published to /r/jailbreak, YTLite is intended to be easy on system resources while still providing some of the most highly demanded features to include:

  • Hiding video ads
  • Enabling background playback
  • Removing the Cast, Search, and Notification buttons from the interface
  • Removing labels from the tab bar
  • Hiding tabs from the tab bar entirely

Currently, the developer has requested input from the community for features to add in the future, and it looks like removing Shorts is one of the most highly requested features that will come in a future update.

If you’re a YouTube user and you want to make the app feel less cluttered, then YTLite is a great place to start. The tweak is available as a .deb that you can download for free from GitHub and is fully open source for curious minds who want to know how it works under the hood.

YTLite supports both rootful and rootless jailbreaks, including the latest for iOS & iPadOS 15 and 16 by Dopamine and palera1n.

Please note that YTLite is not a substitute for YouTube Premium, so if you want all the features that come with YouTube Premium, then you will still need to purchase a subscription.
