PSA: You can install XinaA15 and Dopamine on the same device and switch back and forth without issues

If you were previously using the XinaA15 jailbreak for arm64e devices running iOS or iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1, and you’ve thought about making the switch to the new rootless Dopamine jailbreak for arm64e devices running iOS or iPadOS 15.0-15.4.1, then you will be pleased to know that this will be a lot easier than you might think.

Citing a comment on /r/jailbreak by Dopamine lead developer Lars Fröder, it’s completely safe to install both XinaA15 and Dopamine on the same device and switch back and forth without issues. The test was actually shown to work later on in a separate post by /r/jailbreak user karlitoni.

Since XinaA15 supports a stricter subset of firmware versions, installing both jailbreaks will only be possible on A12-A15 chip-equipped devices running iOS or iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1. Any firmware newer than iOS or iPadOS 15.1.1, up to and including iOS or iPadOS 15.4.1, will only be able to use Dopamine.

So who would want to install both jailbreaks on the same device? An interesting question…

You see, Dopamine is a rootless jailbreak, and while many tweaks are being updated to support rootless, that isn’t the case for all of them. XinaA15 mimics a rootful environment, and so even rootful jailbreak tweaks should work on it. This makes it more compatible with existing jailbreak tweaks that may not have been updated yet to support rootless.

The only caveat to having both jailbreaks installed at the same time is that you can only boot one of them at any given time. With respect to our comment above about jailbreak tweak compatibility, users may opt to boot into XinaA15 more often than Dopamine, at least until more jailbreak tweaks jump onto the rootless bandwagon.

If installing two jailbreak tweaks on the same device isn’t your forte, then you may also choose to uninstall the XinaA15 jailbreak before attempting to install Dopamine; we just wanted to make it clear that this isn’t entirely necessary.

It’s worth noting that the XinaA15 developer has considered scrapping the project in its entirety given the success of the Dopamine jailbreak. Having said that, XinaA15 is now looked at as deprecated, and the Dopamine jailbreak is now the recommended iOS & iPadOS 15 jailbreak for arm64e devices.
