Latest update on Cheyote status is a silver lining for the jailbreak community

Those who’ve been following the developmental stages of the Odyssey Team’s upcoming Cheyote jailbreak for iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 have done well to remain patient as the team’s developers sort out the challenges that come along with moving to the new rootless dynamic. Fortunately, the team surfaced with a fresh update on Saturday.

Speaking from the Sileo & Odyssey Team Discord channel, jioriku is seen in the screenshot example above offering new information about what remains in the Cheyote project.

As it would appear, around three parts of the Cheyote jailbreak are still awaiting important updates, most of which are along the lines of libhooker tweak injection. A lot of this appears to be waiting on jailbreak tweaks to migrate over to the libhooker API.

A significant part of making all the pieces fall into the correct places is getting Theos, a utility used by tweak developers to create the tweaks we all know and love, properly updated to take advantage of the libhooker API. From what we can gather, @hbkirb is working to make that happen.

After Theos gets all the upgrades that it needs to work with Cheoyte, CoolStar should at that point be able to finish the updates to libhooker that are required to get it working properly on iOS & iPadOS 15 so that jailbreak tweak developers can make jailbreak tweaks for iOS & iPadOS 15 and the rootless dynamic. While some of the updates are already in place, jioriku says more needs to be done before it’s deemed complete.

The Odyssey Team apparently plans to soft launch a working beta to tweak developers for testing after the aforementioned upgrades are completed, but until those upgrades are finally implemented, development remains at a standstill.

One thing to note is that the Odyssey Team has once again called for those waiting for the jailbreak to exercise patience and refrain from harassing the developers that make this jailbreak a reality. The harassment coupled with ungrateful attitudes witnessed in the jailbreak community today are seriously demotivating issues for developers. That said, iDB recommends anyone silently waiting to continue waiting silently.

While there has certainly been a long wait involved for an iOS & iPadOS 15 jailbreak, the silver lining here is that progress has been and is being made and the Cheyote jailbreak will eventually be released.
