The best cases you can buy right now for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro

Welcome to our roundup of the best iPhone 14 cases. After hours of research and combing over samples, we’ve put together a list of what we think are the best iPhone 14 cases for almost every budget, use-case and style. We have options for the base iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, Pro and Pro Max, and everything from ultra-thin minimal iPhone 14 cases to premium leather wallet cases. You’ll find the full roundup below!

What kind of case do I need?

When choosing an iPhone 14 case, it all comes down to protection — how much do you really need? If you work from home or have an office job and you aren’t overly clumsy or into extreme sports, you can probably get away with a thinner case. You just need something to protect against purse or pocket scratches and the rare bump or drop.

Now on the other hand, if you ride the subway often or like to use your phone in more accident-prone places like the gym, you’ll probably want something with a little more cushion. A raised bezel around the screen and rear camera, and extra padded corners are all features you’d look for for added protection against contact with hard surfaces.

Finally, for those that work construction or spend a lot of time outdoors, you’re going to want a more rugged case. These cases have features like built-in screen protectors, and covers over the buttons and port openings in an effort to help keep dust, dirt and grime away from your phone. Rugged cases are also the bulkiest and heaviest of all the case options, so you’re just going to have to decide what is more important to you. Once you’ve determined how much protection, and what kind of case you need, then you can find one that fits your taste and budget.

Do iPhone 13 cases fit iPhone 14?

The short answer is no, your iPhone 13 case most likely won’t fit the iPhone 14 due to two subtle differences between the handsets. The first is that the iPhone 14 is .01″ deeper than its predecessor. Now that on its own wouldn’t be a deal-breaker, but Apple has also slightly changed the size and position of the iPhone’s buttons, meaning cutouts on cases wouldn’t match up properly. There might be some cases out there that squeak by without much impact, but for the most part we recommend getting a new case for your new iPhone.

Do iPhone 13 Pro cases fit the iPhone 14 Pro?

This is an even harder no. Not only does the iPhone 14 Pro feature the same changes to the button size and location mentioned above, it also has a much larger rear camera unit that too, messes with case cutouts. Ditto for the iPhone 13/14 Pro Max models.

What about MagSafe cases?

Well for starters, what is MagSafe? It’s Apple’s proprietary wireless charging and accessory attachment tech. Utilizing magnets, it provides up to 15W of power and is backwards-compatible with the open Qi wireless charging standard at 7.5W. It’s available in all new iPhone models and there is a strong ecosystem of MagSafe accessories.

What does this mean for you and your case options? Any case we have listed below will work just fine with your respective iPhone 14 model. They are all compatible with standard Qi wireless charging. But if you want the faster 15W wireless charging, and the lock-in-place magnetic feeling when you drop your iPhone on the charger, you’re going to need to ensure the case is MagSafe-friendly. We should have this clearly marked, but to confirm compatibility you can check the retail description or look for the built-in magnets in the phone case.

The Liquid Armor is one of my favorite every-day, silicone cases. It’s matte black, super thin and the non-slip texture adds extra grip and feels great in the hand.

Shopping Tip: when searching for a more protective case for your device, you may come across the term ‘military-grade protection’ and wonder what it means. This typically signifies that the case has been run through one or more of the tests outlined in the MIL-STD 810G (guidelines for testing US military equipment). These tests usually include dropping the phone on all faces and edges from at least 4 feet onto a hard surface, but the height (and other details) varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. There’s no certification or anything, so you kind of just have to take the company at its word.

Premium case

Casetify Impact

If you’re looking for a premium case with a little more character, we like the Impact line from Casetify. They’re on the expensive side, but they are military grade drop-tested and compatible with MagSafe.
