15 things to know about the new iPhone SE 3: A15 Bionic, 5G, Ceramic Shield and more

Apple at its “Peek Performance” pre-taped presentation today announced a new, third-generation iPhone SE featuring the iPhone 13’2 A15 Bionic chip, Ceramic Shield and more.

Here’s a quick list of the key improvements for iPhone SE 3:

  • Same design as iPhone 8
  • 12MP camera
  • 4.7-inch Retina LCD display
  • Computational photography with Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles, reduced noise in low light
  • A15 Bionic chip (same as iPhone 13)
  • 6-core CPU 1.8x times than iPhone 8
  • GPU 2.2x faster than iPhone 8
  • 16-core neural engine 15.8 trillion operations per second
  • Live Text support, on-device Siri and more
  • Glass and aluminum design
  • Midnight, Starlight and PRODUCT(RED) colors
  • Ceramic Shield on both the front and the back
  • IP67 water and dust resistance
  • Home button with Touch ID
  • Better battery life
  • 5G cellular networking

According to the technical specifications on Apple’s website, however, neither the new iPhone SE nor the new iPad Air with 5G connectivity seem to support the fastest mmWave 5G bands. The new, third-generation iPhone SE will be available to pre-order starting Friday, March 11, 2022. The phone will land on store shelves with retail availability beginning Friday, March 18.
