The new MacBook Pro captured in photos out in the wild

The brand new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro is quite the striking design change from the previous generation models. Apple didn’t try to make it super thin or even shy away from adopting a notch in the display. And now, before it officially lands on store shelves (or even at most early adopters’ homes for that matter), there are some units out there in the wild. Which, of course, means some intrepid individuals were ready to snap some photos and videos of the new laptops in the wild.

The above image was shared on Reddit by user “Z3PPEL1N” and does a great job of showing how the brand new 14-inch MacBook Pro compares to the previous high-end 13-inch MacBook Pro. Namely, we can see that the newer model does have a bigger footprint than the previous model, which does make sense. As mentioned above, Apple didn’t try to shave any of the dimensions down as it packed in a ton of features — and ports. It appears that the trackpad is about the same size in both models, though.

For those curious, here’s how the size and weight of the 14-inch MacBook Pro breaks down:

  • Height: 0.61 inch (1.55 cm)
  • Width: 12.31 inches (31.26 cm)
  • Depth: 8.71 inches (22.12 cm)
  • Weight: 3.5 pounds (1.6 kg)

We get to see how the new keyboard looks in comparison to the 13-inch MacBook Pro, including the all-black design. Plus, no Touch Bar in the newer 14-inch variant, which is apparently a welcomed change for a lot of would-be MacBook Pro buyers out there.

The biggest change, though, is with the display. Along with being slightly bigger at 14 inches (compared to the 13-inch model on the right), there are the slightly smaller bezels in the newer laptop. And that’s helped in part because of the notch at the top of the screen. Seeing the display compared directly to the 13-inch MacBook Pro makes it even more striking and obvious. While many have argued that the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro probably doesn’t really need a notch, if this is the trade-off for those smaller bezels, it might be worth it.

The first 2021 MacBook Pros are making their way into the wild! from macbookpro

It’s great to see the new MacBook Pro out there in the wild like this. Especially with the comparison to the 13-inch MacBook Pro. It will be even more interesting to see how the 16-inch MacBook Pro compares to the 13-inch model, size wise. And how it compares to the 16-inch MacBook Pro without a Touch Bar.
