Make your notification badges pop with BlurryBadges

One thing that hasn’t changed much over the years is the look of the red notification badges that appear over the Home Screen’s app icons whenever they have missed notifications that require attention.

Those interested in giving the notification badges on their jailbroken handset(s) a makeover may take kindly to a newly released and free jailbreak tweak called BlurryBadges by iOS developer PoomSmart.

By configuring a few options provided in the Settings app post-installation, users can change certain parameters of their notification badges to fundamentally change how they look:

Here, users have the option to:

  • Configure a custom notification badge border size:
    • No border
    • Little border
    • Medium border
    • Pre-iOS 7 border
    • Huge border
  • Configure a custom notification badge border color:
    • Lighter border
    • Darker border
    • White border
    • Black border
    • Random color border
  • Manually adjust the tint alpha level of the notification badge

Examples of the different aesthetics are depicted in the preference pane itself, which enables users to more effectively see what each setting will do to their notification badges.

One thing worth noting is that changes appear to take effect on the fly without the need for a respring. This is highly convenience and saves the end user a little bit of time.

Those interested in giving the new BlurryBadges tweak a try can download it for free from PoomSmart’s personal repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak appears to support jailbroken iOS 13 and 14 devices, but may also work as expected on earlier versions of iOS.

If you aren’t already using PoomSmart’s personal repository, then you can add it to your package manager of choice by using the following URL:
