‘Ted Lasso’ and ‘Stillwater’ pick up 2021 Peabody Awards nominations

Awards season for entertainment isn’t quite over just yet, even with the Oscars wrapped for this year. Which means it’s possible for Apple TV+ entries to earn even more of them.

Today, the nominations for this year’s Peabody Awards have been revealed. The official Board of Jurors for the establishment released the 60 nominations today, ranging over a variety of content, including general entertainment, children’s entertainment, news, documentary, and more.

According to the group, the Peabody Awards are meant to award “the most compelling and empowering stories released in broadcasting and streaming media”.

There were 1,300 entries across the aforementioned categories. 19 jurors were tapped for this year’s selection. Per Deadline, Martha Nelson, the chair of the Peabody’s juror, weighed in on this year’s entries:

During an incredibly turbulent and difficult year, these nominees rose to the occasion and delivered compelling and empowering stories,’ said former Yahoo! Global Editor-in-Chief Martha Nelson, who now chairs the Peabody jury. ‘From Covid-19 coverage to poignant explorations of identity, each nominee not only told a powerful story but also made a significant impact on media programming and the cultural landscape. We’re thrilled to recognize their outstanding and inspiring work.

Maybe it’s not too surprising by now, but the comedy series Ted Lasso starring Jason Sudeikis earned a nomination this year. But that isn’t the only nom for an Apple TV+ series. The children’s and youth series, Stillwater, has also earned a nod from the Peabody jurors this year. You can check out the trailer for Stillwater just below.
