‘Ted Lasso’ returns for a second season July 23 on Apple TV+

Apple TV+ teased earlier this year that the critically-acclaimed series Ted Lasso would premiere its second season at some point this year, but didn’t give us an actual date to circle on the calendar. But now that’s changed.

Today, during the company’s Spring Loaded event, Apple revealed that the second season of the series will premiere on Friday, July 23, 2021. At the same time, we also got our first real look at what’s coming for the head coach and friends, as we got a teaser trailer showing new footage.

Ted Lasso‘s second season will continue to follow the eponymous head coach of a major football club as he struggles with the change of scenery, the life he left back in the United States, and coming to terms with how life has changed for him since taking the gig. Unfortunately, Apple’s announcement today didn’t go into any major story details, but the teaser trailer does a great job of showing off the charm of the show anyway.

Ted Lasso stars Jason Sudeikis in the lead role. Filling out the rest of the cast is Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton; Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard; Jeremy Swift as Higgins; Phil Dunster as Jamie Tart; Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent; Nick Mohammed as Nathan Shelley; and Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, among others. Sarah Niles joined the cast as well, playing the sports psychologist Sharon.

The second season of the series will have more episodes than the first season, coming in with 12 rather than 10. However, while the show has been renewed for a third season already, the series creator has said that will probably be the last.

Are you looking forward to the return of this comedy?
