Hands-on with iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro cases

According to leaked schematics, dummy models and rumors, Apple’s iPhone refresh for 2020 will include four models in three different sizes. To give our readers a better idea how those upcoming handsets measure up against each other in terms of size, we put our iPhone X, iPhone 6 and iPhone 11 Pro inside the iPhone 12 cases from Totallee, a brand which for the eighth year in a row has cases ready for the new generation of iPhones ahead of Apple’s announcement.

New iPhone sizes

This time around, there should be a clearer separation between Pro and non-Pro models with two handsets in each category. Specifically, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max will be your non-Pro models. Similarly, the Pro tier will include the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Here are all the new iPhone 12 sizes we’re expecting:

  • iPhone 12: 5.4-inch OLED screen
  • iPhone 12 Max: 6.1-inch OLED screen
  • iPhone 12 Pro: 6.1-inch OLED screen
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max: 6.7-inch OLED screen

As you can see, only the 6.1-inch size matches up with today’s iPhone 11. The other two sizes (5.4 inches and 6.7 inches) are all-new iPhone sizes we haven’t seen before.

And this is what we currently have today:

  • iPhone 11: 6.1-inch LCD screen
  • iPhone 11 Pro: 5.8-inch OLED screen
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max: 6.5-inch OLED screen

For a better idea of the iPhone 12 sizes, let’s see how our iPhone X (5.8 inches), iPhone 6 (4.7 inches) and iPhone 11 Pro (6.5 inches) look inside some of the iPhone 12 cases from Totallee.

Hands-on with iPhone 12 cases

iPhone 12 fitted with iPhone 6

Here we have a clear case for the 5.4-inch iPhone 12. We start off by confirming that, as expected, our iPhone 6 doesn’t fit inside this case. Despite having a smaller 4.7-inch screen, the iPhone 6’s outdated design has that fat chin and forehead making it bigger than it needs to be.

iPhone 12 Max case fitted with iPhone X

And if the two images below are anything to go by, your iPhone X will fit inside one of these 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max cases but with plenty of breathing room on all sides. Needless to say, we’re not expecting you to really carry an iPhone X/XS around in this case — this is just for the sake of discussion and to give you a better understanding of how an iPhone 12 Max might feel in your hand (if you’ve ever held a 6.1-inch iPhone XR/iPhone 11 in your hand, that’s your answer).

iPhone 12 Pro fitted with iPhone 11 Pro

The biggest mystery is the entry-level Pro model, the iPhone 12 Pro, growing from 5.8 inches (iPhone 11 Pro) to 6.1 inches. Will it be the exact same size as the 6.1-inch iPhone 11 or slightly smaller, just enough so that none of the existing 6.1-inch cases won’t fit?

And while the iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro have the same 6.1-inch screen, we don’t know yet if 6.1-inch cases will fit both devices because button placement may differ just enough to make you buy separate cases. If anything, our images suggest that the 6.1-inch case might be too tall for the upcoming phone while being a tiny little bit wider.

I guess we’ll have our answers in October…

And lastly, we put an iPhone 11 Pro inside an iPhone 12 Pro Max case. As you can see for yourself, this year’s flagship 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max model will be wider and noticeably taller than what we have today with the 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro.

Remember when we used to laugh at Samsung people for carrying those phablets around? Good times… Unfortunately, we didn’t have an iPhone 11 Pro Max at the time of this writing to try to put the case in.

Totallee’s cases for the iPhone 12 family

All the cases we’ve tried for the purpose of this article come from Totallee.

Since 2013, this company has successfully released iPhone cases ahead of Apple’s announcement. And now they have cases ready for the new generation of iPhones even though Apple hasn’t even announced them yet.

You can pre-order these ultra-thin cases for the iPhone 12 family from Totallee:

Shipments are scheduled to commence Tuesday, October 13.

Totallee tells me its design is confirmed by its manufacturer. In fact, they’re so confident about these cases that they’re offering a 30-day money-back guarantee.
