BadgeBar replaces iOS’ ugly notification badges with colorful bars

I have always hated the way notification badges look on the iOS Home screen. Although the red dots are great at catching my attention, they do so in an incredibly hideous way, and I sometimes think that it takes away from the beauty of Apple’s platform.

If you agree that iOS’ notification badge system is due for a facelift and you have a jailbroken iPhone or iPad at your disposal, then you just might want to try a new and free jailbreak tweak called BadgeBar by iOS developer JannikCrack.

As shown in the screenshot examples above, BadgeBar replaces the ugly traditional red notification badge with something much more aesthetically pleasing — a colorized bar that appears underneath the app icon itself.

In my opinion, it looks best when hiding the Home screen’s application labels, as it helps draw more attention to the missed notification itself. Fortunately, BadgeBar can already do this for you without the need to install another jailbreak tweak.

BadgeBar adds a preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure the following options:

  • Toggle BadgeBar on or off on demand
  • Enable or disable the bar-styled badge notifications
  • Hide the Home screen’s application labels
  • Dynamically colorize the badge bar’s color based on the app’s icon that it represents
  • Hide badges from Folder icons

I love the BadgeBar concept so much that I wish Apple would implement something like this instead of the despicable red notification badges that I’ve come to simply put up with.

For those who feel the same way I do, BadgeBar is available as a free download from the developer’s Discord channel, and it works with jailbroken iOS 13 devices.
