If rumors are true, then Apple is going to launch an “iPhone SE 2” — or “iPhone 9” — in the early part of this year.
And since that’s basically right around the corner now, it’s no surprise that we’re starting to get renders of what that handset might look like. The rumors have painted a pretty distinct picture so far, though: a handset that looks reminiscent to the iPhone 8, with a physical button on the front and bezels galore. The handset is expected to feature a 4.7-inch display, too, and may boast an A13 Bionic processor under the hood.
So, thanks to iGeeksBlog and @OnLeaks, we have some renders of the upcoming handset to look at. The render confirms the rumors we’ve heard in the past, including the size of the display, the shiny, round edges, and the Touch ID-equipped button on the front. Around back there’s a single camera, and if this render leads into an actual device, then the “iPhone 9” won’t have a headphone jack — a stark difference compared to the iPhone SE this handset would effectively be replacing.
The rumor mill also speculates that this device will lack 3D Touch. The render also suggests the new smartphone will have a glass back.
However (there’s always an however, right?), even the publication believes the inclusion of a glass back and a rounded, metal frame, are purely speculative. This handset is expected to start around the $400 price point, which means Apple will likely be shaving down some features to meet that target. A glass back and a metal frame may not make the cut, basically.
Still, it’s cool to see the “iPhone 9” rendered in a believable fashion. If Apple does make the successor to the iPhone SE look like this, and does hit that low price point, would you consider it?
