If you’re anything like me, then you probably set a morning alarm each day of the week to ensure you wake up at the proper time to prepare for work in the morning. But wouldn’t it be nice if iOS gave you somewhat of a heads-up when an alarm was set to go off the following day?
A newly released and free jailbreak tweak called Sakal by iOS developer P2KDev does exactly that, and it does this in a very aesthetically pleasing manner.
As depicted in the screenshot examples above, Sakal displays your upcoming alarm status just above the Lock screen’s date and time indicator. If you have an alarm set for the future, then it’ll show the alarm icon along with the day, followed by the time. Alternatively, the tweak displays an alarm icon with the text ‘No Upcoming Alarms’ if you don’t have any upcoming alarms.
To be clear, Sakal is designed to display your next upcoming alarm, and not necessarily any configured to go off the next day. I could have very well had an alarm set for Tuesday instead of Monday and it would have displayed that alarm instead, as long as I didn’t have any alarms set for Monday.
Upon installing Sakal, you’ll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:
Here, you can:
- Customize the No Upcoming Alarms text format
- Customize the alarm time format
- Choose a font style:
- Regular
- Bold
- Heavy
- Enter a preferred font size
- Choose a preferred text alignment:
- Center
- Left
- Right
- Configure a preferred vertical offset
If you don’t use iOS’ alarm feature, then you probably won’t have any need for a tweak like Sakal. On the other hand, those who use alarms frequently may benefit from having the tweak, as it may prevent you from forgetting that you need to get up early the next day for any type of event that you might set alarms for.
