Apple TV app launches on Roku devices

The Apple TV app is now available on select Roku players ahead of the November 1 launch of the iPhone maker’s original video-streaming service, dubbed Apple TV+.

According to the announcement, the Apple TV app is available on the Roku platform starting today. Roku owners can download the free software in the Roku Channel Store.

The app is available to Roku users in Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, France, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

It’s unsupported on select older Roku models.

The app allows owners of Roku players to watch movies and TV shows (including ones in their iTunes video libraries), stream Apple TV channels they’re subscribed to and access personalized recommendations. They can also browse, buy or rent more than 100,000 movies and TV shows available on iTunes using their Apple ID and password. Lastly, the upcoming Apple TV+ service will launch in the Apple TV app on the Roku platform on November 1.

The Apple TV+ service will be available beginning November 1 for fife bucks per month with a 7-day free trial and support for Family Sharing. As a cherry on top of an already sweet cake, new Apple device owners will be entitled to 12 free months of service.

Apple TV+ will stream anywhere the Apple TV app is officially supported, from the company’s own devices such as iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac and Apple TV to third-party hardware including select LG, Sony, Vision and Samsung smart TVs, Amazon’s Fire TV HDMI dongle and Roku players. The service will also be supported in modern web browsers at tv.apple.com.
