The best folio cases for iPad Pro

There are a variety of different case designs for Apple’s iPad lineup, fitting the majority of needs that most customers are looking for. One category is the folio case, which typically keeps things pretty light, but offers a degree of protection and, typically, a few different viewing angles.

If you’re in the market for a new folio case for your 11- or 12.9-inch iPad Pro, we’ve compiled a quick list of some of the best options out there. There are several different options to choose from, the list should be pretty straightforward. So, let’s dig in.

ProCase

The Pro Case folio for the iPad Pro 11

The ProCase has a premium composition leather design, with a soft interior to make sure the iPad Pro’s display stays safe while closed. The case itself doesn’t block the wireless charging section on the top of the tablet so you can charge the Apple Pencil, and there are three different viewing angles.

On the front of the case, there is a dedicated document/card pocket, which makes it easy to manage loose cash, smaller documents, and other items. The folio case doesn’t block the camera, the USB-C charging port, or the speakers. It also supports the auto Sleep/Wake feature when opening and closing the case.

The ProCase is available in four colors: Black, Brown, Navy, and Red. It’s priced at either $8.99 or $9.99, depending your choice of color.

There is a dedicated organizer pocket, a holder for the Apple Pencil, and a leather hand strap as well.

The Ztotop folio case supports three different viewing angles, supports wireless charging with the Apple Pencil, and doesn’t cover up the cameras, the speakers, or the USB-C charging port.

OtterBox

The OtterBox folio case for the 11-inch iPad Pro, part of the Symmetry Series, features an ultra-slim design. It offers a couple of different “modes”, one for viewing content (pictured above), and the other for typing. A microfiber liner covers the display, and built-in magnets make it so that it supports auto wake and puts the tablet to sleep when the cover is opened or closed.

The back of the iPad Pro is also protected, with a clear protection panel. The folio case has raised edges around the rear cameras as well.

Logitech

The Logitech folio case for the 11-inch iPad Pro offers something a bit more than the other options: a built-in keyboard. This one doesn’t have a trackpad as well, so things remain small and compact and thin. It retains that folio case design, though, with a built-in stand.

The keyboard itself is refined for a worthwhile typing experience. And the case should remain stable even on your lap. There are a row of function keys at the top, something that Apple continues to not offer on its own keyboard cases, and the keys are backlit as well.

The folio case offers both front and back protection, with a secure magnetic latch to make sure the case stays closed. There is a cutout in the case for the Apple Pencil to support charging the accessory, and a flap that will keep it in place when the case is closed.

This folio case doesn’t connect with the Smart Connector, unfortunately. Still, it should last three months on a single charge (with two hours-a-day use cases), and the Bluetooth connection to the iPad Pro should remain stable when needed.

The Logitech Slim Folio Pro case is available now from Amazon.

Apple Smart Folio

Apple's Smart Folio for the iPad Pro

Apple’s folio case for the 11-inch iPad Pro is not the cheapest option, but it does get the job done. It supports the Wake/Sleep function when opening or closing the folio case, and doesn’t cover up any of the speakers or the USB-C port. It also allows for wireless charging of the Apple Pencil.

Apple’s Smart Folio is typically priced at $79.00, but at the time of publication Amazon has it on sale for as low as $70.99. It’s available in three colors: Charcoal Gray, White, and Soft Pink.

UAG Folio

UAG Folio for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro

The UAG folio is meant to offer a bit more of a rugged design, but manages to keep the whole case’s profile super thin at the same time. The case offers an impact-resistant soft core, with a “water resistant soft tactile grip material”. There is a dedicated Apple Pencil holder, and the case also offers compatibility for charging as well.

Best of all, though, the UAG folio for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro meets military drop standards (MIL STD 810G 516.6), so it should keep on trucking along even if you drop the case from a relatively small distance.

The UAG folio for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is priced at $89.95. It’s available in Cobalt and Magma color schemes.

Apple's folio case for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro

The smart folio case from Apple is pricey, but it does offer a case that covers both the front and back of the iPad Pro when the case is closed. It supports the auto Wake/Sleep functionality, and keeps a low profile on the tablet without covering the rear camera, the USB-C port, or the speakers.
