One of the things you interact with every day when using your iPhone or iPad is its Home screen, so wouldn’t it be nice if you could customize more about it than just the wallpaper?
If you agree with the notion above, then you just might take a liking to a newly-released free jailbreak tweak dubbed LabelChangerby iOS developer Dave van Wijk.
LabelChanger lets you customize your Home screen’s app icon labels in almost any way imaginable. In the screenshot examples above and below, you can see that the tweak lets you do any of the following:
- Make app icon labels bold
- Change the color of your app icon labels
- Add colorized borders to your app icon labels
- Hide app icon labels altogether
- Replace app icon labels with colored shapes (because why not?)
LabelChanger puts a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:
Here, you can:
- Hide or show your Home screen’s app icon labels on demand
- Enable or disable bold app icon labels (doesn’t impact iOS’ system-wide text)
- Toggle custom app icon label color
- Choose a custom app icon label color
- Toggle custom app icon label border
- Choose a custom app icon label border color
The developer provides a Respring button at the bottom of the preference pane, and you’ll want to use this every time you make changes to ensure they get appended.
We particularly like the idea of setting custom colors for your app icon labels because it can help your Home screen pop against certain types of wallpapers. Moreover, if you have a wallpaper that seemingly goes terrible with every color imaginable, you can use the border feature to make the text more legible or hide the labels entirely.

LabelChanger supports all jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices, but please be advised that you may need to install the dependency “libcolorpicker” manually if it isn’t installed automatically with the tweak.
