Pressing and holding a certain button sequence on your iOS device (the sequence varies depending on the device) invokes the power down menu from which you can easily turn your handset off. Unfortunately, iOSâ native power down menu has an ongoing reputation for being somewhat âfeatureless.â
In an attempt to change that, iOS developer conorthedev released a new free jailbreak tweak called ModernPower, which gives iOSâ native power down menu a modern facelift and supercharges it with additional features that you wonât find out of the box on a stock device.
As shown in the before and after screenshot examples above, ModernPower replaces the single âslide to power offâ slider with a button-based interface comprised of four different options, including:
- Rebooting the device
- Powering off the device
- Accessing more hidden features
- Closing the interface
If you tap on the âMoreâ button, then youâre presented with these options:

- Respringing the device
- Entering Sandbox mode on the device
- Going back to the main menu
Right off the bat, you can see that ModernPower gives you a lot more functionality at first glance, but thatâs just the tip of the iceberg. Youâll find a dedicated preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your personal liking:

Here, you can:
- Toggle ModernPower on or off on demand
- Choose between default, modern, or custom appearance
- Share or import your settings
Those three preference cells in the primary preference pane contain the following options:

Default Settings
- Themeless
- Pixel Blue
- Pixel Green
- Apple Blue
Modern Settings
- Extra Light
- Light
- Dark
- Override tint color
Custom Settings
- Select a custom tint color via a color picker
- Select a custom background color via a color picker
The developer provides a respring button at the top of the primary preference pane, and youâre advised to use this whenever you make changes to the tweakâs settings to ensure that they take effect.
We took ModernPower for a spin ourselves and tend to agree that itâs a significant upgrade over Appleâs native power down menu. With that in mind, we found very little that we didnât like about it, apart from the fact that the developer didnât just include all the features on the main menu rather than making you tap âMoreâ to access two additional features.
