watchOS 5.2 brings ECG app to more regions, adds support for AirPods 2

Apple on Wednesday released watchOS 5.2 to the public as expected, an update for the Apple Watch that adds support for Apple’s brand-new second-generation AirPods, among other things.

The update also brings the ECG app and irregular rhythm notification to Hong Kong and 19 European countries. It also offers support for the AirPods 2nd generation and real-time text (RTT) for phone calls.

List of countries supporting the ECG app

With watchOS 5.2, the ECG app and irregular rhythm notifications are now available in 24 countries and territories: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guam, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, US and US Virgin Islands.

ECG app and irregular rhythm notification features require iPhone 5s or later on iOS 12.2.

To install this update, you’ll need to connect your Apple Watch to its charger and ensure that it’s in range of your iPhone when it’s connected to a Wi-Fi network. If you meet those criteria, then you can open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and visit General → Software Update to find the update.

The watchOS 5.2 installation will begin after your Apple Watch reaches at least 50% battery, and you shouldn’t remove the Apple Watch from its charger until the update completes.

Apple already released iOS 12.2 and macOS Mojave 10.14.4 earlier this week, each of which brought full support for Apple’s second-generation AirPods to iOS devices and Macs, along with a few other changes for both platforms.

It’s worth noting that Apple’s second-generation AirPods will still work with your devices without these updates, although certain features such as ‘Hey Siri’ won’t work until the updates are installed.
