Yoop, Laughable, Calorie Mama AI, and other apps to check out this weekend

Looking for some new apps and games to try this weekend? iDB has you covered. This week’s Edition of our Apps of the Week roundup includes a music-maker, a comedy-centric podcast client, a calorie-counter, and two great new games for you to check out.

Yoop

I’m a sucker for apps that nurture creativity—particularly those that help you create music. Yoop is a collaborative, music-making toy for everyone. You don’t have to be a musician—just pick your sound pack, tap out your tune, and prepare to jam out. The app supports layers and makes sure you stay on beat, and you can even collaborate with friends using Bluetooth. Yoop is available for free.

Laughable

Charlie Chaplin once said, “a day without laughter is a day wasted.” Laughable aims to help make sure that doesn’t happen. It’s essentially a podcast client, with a focus on comedy-related shows. Features include thousands of podcasts hosted by well-known comedians, powerful search that lets you track down your favorite comics, and more. Laughable is available for free.

Calorie Mama AI

One of my least favorite parts of health-tracking apps is having to manually input everything you eat. That’s where Calorie Mama AI comes in. The app can tell you how many calories are in food just by taking and analyzing a picture of it. There may be other apps that do this, but this one uses deep AI, neural networks, computer vision and other impressive tech to insure accuracy. Calorie Mama AI is available free (with in-app purchases).

The Escapists

The popular prison escape game has landed on iOS! You’ve landed yourself in person again, and your only chance is to engineer an escape by any means necessary. How you do it is up to you. Prison riot? Sure. Dig a tunnel under the walls? Go for it. Steal a guard uniform to blend in with your captors? Good luck! Become an Escapist and try your skills in prisons across the world. The Escapists is available for $3.99.

Lucky 21

Lucky 21 is exactly what it sounds like. An unbelievably simple card game that is based on one rule: is the next card over 21 or under 21? If you think the next card is 21 or less, swipe left. If you think the next card is over 21, swipe right. Think Blackjack, but without all of the complex rules. Your only goal is to get to 21. It doesn’t sound like much, but the minimal graphics and gameplay are kind of addictive. Lucky 21 is available for free.
