Facebook is currently testing a brand new look for profile pages on mobile with a small number of iPhone users in the United Kingdom and California.

The upcoming mobile-friendly features were designed to bring Facebook profiles to life with videos, time-limited images, custom layouts and other new features coming soon to everyone, said Facebook.

Layout improvements

In terms of changes to the mobile profile layout, the profile picture box will be bigger and centered. When checking out profile pages of people you’re not friends with, both their photos and mutual friends will be right at the top so you won’t have to switch between the profile and friends list view.

Profile videos

Filing as the biggest change to happen to profiles since the social networking firm first introduced the feature back in 2004, Facebook will let you capture a short, looping video clip that will play for anyone who visits your profile.

“Profile videos will let show a part of yourself you couldn’t before, and add a new dimension to your profile,” argues the firm. And Here’s what videos in profiles will look like.

Time-limited profile pictures

Static profile pictures will be given some love, too.

Soon, users will be permitted to to set a temporary version of their profile picture which will revert back to a previous profile picture at a specified time. Time-limited profile pics should help you better express yourself in the run-up to sports events, anniversaries, important events, causes and so forth.

Creating a temporary profile picture specifically for those moments and events can be a visual status update of sorts and your statement of solidarity for a cause you feel strongly about, argues the social networking firm.

Improved profile controls

In addition to controlling who can see the information on your profile, you will soon be able to convey what you want people to know about you in a more granular manner thanks to an all-new customizable space at the top of your profile.

“You can curate this space by changing the visibility of the fields that show up here,” explains the firm. You’ll be able to put up to five Featured Photos at the top of your profile, set certain public fields from your About section to appear here and take advantage of the new one-line ‘Bio’ field.

This new space will be visible to anyone who visits your profile.

As mentioned, new-look profiles on Facebook are currently being tested with a small number of iPhone app users in the United Kingdom and California. Facebook didn’t provide a timeframe for the official launch beyond stating that refreshed profiles will be rolling out “to more people soon.”
