Ahead of its public opening on May 21, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum has released an official iOS app. The 9/11 Museum Audio Guide app for the iPhone and iPad, available free in the App Store, honors the 2,983 people killed in 9/11 terrorist attacks on Twin Towers.

Basically an audio guide designed to aid tourists and museum attendees, the app includes three main tours to choose from such as Witnessing History and Discovering History and features 13 sections, each accompanied by description and narration…

From iTunes release notes:

The guide provides themed audio tours featuring stories from the day of 9/11 and the recovery at Ground Zero. It also presents details of the Museum’s archaeological elements and architectural designs of the Memorial and the Museum.

The Witnessing History tour is narrated by Robert De Niro. It’s available in multiple languages and provides a basic overview of 9/11 and its aftermath.

The Discovering History tour is designed for families and children 8-11 years old and the Building History one gets you up to speed with the archaeological remnants of the World Trade Center visible in the Museum.

This tour also provides details about the building and the original complex’s design, told through the mouth of architects, recovery workers and preservationists.
