Facebook just posted a significant update for its iOS client, bringing the app to version 6.4. The update brings about a number of new features and improvements, including support for the social network’s new hashtag feature.

Version 6.4 also includes a new feature that allows users to make restaurant reservations from within the Facebook app. So if you see a place you’d like to try in the local business Pages, you can set that up with a single click…

Here’s your full 6.4 change log:

• Search for hashtags or tap them in posts to see what other people are saying about a topic
• Make restaurant reservations directly on participating Pages in the US
• Faster loading and a cleaner design for timelines on iPad
• Fixed a bug that was causing some people to see red notification badges when there weren’t any new notifications

Facebook just recently added hashtag support as part of a greater push to help it and its users keep track of trending topics across the popular social network. It works just like Twitter’s hashtag option, with pound signs indicating tags.

The OpenTable integration is part of a bigger relationship between the two companies that allows Facebook users to make restaurant reservations right from within the mobile app using ‘Nearby Places,’ as well as restaurant fan Pages.

Facebook reported amazing numbers for its latest quarter, signaling that the company is finally figuring out its ad business and capitalizing on that. And this new hashtag initiative and OpenTable deal will only bolster those efforts.

As always, you can grab the latest version of Facebook from the App Store for free.
