Google chairman Eric Schmidt offered some candid remarks when venture capitalist Peter Thiel asserted the search company has no creativity as to what to do with its $50+ billion cash hoard. Google is like a bank that generates an enormous cash flow, but it's no longer a technology company, that's Thiel's challenge to Schmidt. UK judge forces Apple to publicly state Samsung didn’t copy iPad design

What goes around comes around. Following a ruling by a United Kingdom court earlier in the month stating that Samsung's Galaxy tablets did not rip off the iPad's design because "they are not as cool" (yeah, it's exactly how the court put it), Judge Colin Birss today ordered that Apple publicize Samsung did not copy the iPad's design for its Galaxy Tab tablet.

The way things are now, we can't help but ask ourselves was it all worth it? If this is what Apple's copyright infringement claim against Galaxy tablets boils down to, maybe Apple shouldn't have sued in the first place. But wait 'till you hear the best part of the ruling...

US Senator asks Uncle Sam to drop antitrust lawsuit against Apple

The United States Senator Charles Schumer is urging the U.S. Justice Department to drop its highly-publicized anti-trust lawsuit against Apple and e-book publishers over price fixing allegations because he reckons the suit could encourage Amazon to tighten its grip over the e-publishing industry.

Specifically, Schumer wrote in his column published by The Wall Street Journal that "the suit will restore Amazon to the dominant position atop the e-books market it occupied for years before competition arrived in the form of Apple". And if that happens, he warns, "consumers will be forced to accept whatever prices Amazon sets"...

Early-2000 iPad prototype Steve Jobs trashed

Wouldn't you like to see what Apple's earliest iPad prototype looked like? Now you can, thanks to NetworkWorld which uncovered a deposition by Apple's design guru Jony Ive containing photos of a three dimensional mockup of a tablet that Apple produced as part of the discovery process some time between 2002 and 2004.

It's referred to as the 035 mockup and depicts a thick device made of plastic and without the physical home button. It's a far cry from today's iPad, but at the time must have been pretty futuristic. Looking at these pictures, we're happy that Steve Jobs axed the tablet project a couple times due to weight, excessive power requirements and sluggishness exhibited by the early prototypes...

As part of the Music app overhaul, Apple with last week's release of iOS 6 Beta 3 brought the Complete My Album feature directly to the Music app, meaning people can now complete their album purchases while on the go, directly in the jukebox app, without being yanked out and into the iTunes Store client. The integration also results in easier music discovery and faster, more seamless purchasing experience...

Apple Stores will now text you when order is ready to be picked

As noted by Cult of Mac's Killian Bell, Apple now offers text alerts for order and pickup status of warez bought through its online store. The new feature is available here and at the time of this writing was limited to United Stats and Canada, though other regions may follow at a later stage...

Apple buys land for new campus in Austin, Texas

In addition to its upcoming spectacular ring-shaped building in Cupertino called Campus 2, Apple is also moving forward with plans to build another campus in Austin, Texas. The Austin Business Journal reports (via The Next Web) that Apple recently purchased three tracts of land in the Milwood Section 20 subdivision near Parmer Lane and Delcour Drive, where its campus is thought to be built...

More iPhone 5 cases surface that look just about right

CydiaBlog points us to a few purported cases for a sixth-generation iPhone, currently on sale over at TVC-Mall. These look just about right given the rumors calling for a taller iPhone with a two-tone design and a metal backplate that have been piling up recently. These cases also confirm leaked schematics and engineering samples which depict a FaceTime camera at the center and a smaller dock connector at the bottom.

It's been reported this morning that thousands of job seekers are currently lined up outside of Foxconn’s Chengdu, China plant, all vying for a number of summer job openings which could mean that Foxconn is ramping up hiring as it is getting ready to manufacture the iPhone 5, as the Japanese blog Macotakara suggested last week...
