Jailbreak iPhone 3.1

With a new OS always comes a new jailbreak… As always, the Dev Team has been working day and night to bring us a reliable jailbreak for iPhone 3.1.

So far, only a Mac version of PwnageTool is available but the Team is working on updating RedSn0w for both Mac and PC. We just have to be patient.

It is also important to note that there is no jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS so far. There finally is a jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS 3.1. It’s a little tricky though so please make sure you read the information below. I wrote a couple tutorials on how to jailbreak iPhone 3.1 using PwnageTool.

Jailbreak iPhone 2G on 3.1

As I mentioned above, there is only a Mac version of PwnageTool to jailbreak the iPhone 2G 3.1 so far. You can read my step by step guide on how to use PwnageTool for the iPhone 2G. A PC version of RedSn0w is in the work.

Jailbreak iPhone 3G on 3.1

Just like for the iPhone 2G, the only way to jailbreak the iPhone 3G 3.1 so far is to use PwnageTool for Mac. No PC version yet. Have a look at the tutorial I wrote on how to use PwnageTool for the iPhone 3G.

Jailbreak iPhone 3GS on 3.1

If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment. In other words, if you are on a pwned version of 3.0 or 3.0.1 (either using PwnageTool, RedSn0w, or PurpleRa1n), then you are fine; just follow this tutorial. If you updated to 3.1, you will have to wait for another method. We don’t know when this other method will be available.

There is only a PwnageTool version of the jailbreak for Mac OS X available but there is a workaround. If you have a PC and want to update to a custom jailbroken 3.1 firmware, follow this tutorial.

I will be updating this post as the news come. I also suggest you check our iPhone jailbreak page that always contains the most up to date information about jailbreaking (tutorials, guides, etc…). And of course, you can always follow me on Twitter.
