iPhone News roundup for 9/11/08
What happened today is the iPhone world? Well, let's see.
Zibri not rushing to release new ZiPhone
On a post on his blog today, Zibri, the creator of ZiPhone, said he was not rushing to release a new version of the iPhone that would allow you to jailbreak and maybe unlock your iPhone or iPod Touch. Zibri didn't say he would release a new version of ZiPhone for sure.
Ziphone is my all time favorite application for jailbreaking the iPhone. I've always found it super easy to use. Even though the Pwning tools such as WinPwn and QuickPwn are stupid simple to use, my heart still goes to ZiPhone.
From Zibri's blog:
At the moment I'm testing and tweaking what could be the next ZiPhone version.
As it happened the first time, I'm not rushing and as it already happened in february I'm not even sure I will release it.
Zibri also said he found a pretty big bug in the iPhone and he's not sure what he wants to do with it:
I just found something that can crash any iphone/ipod and exploitability is being investigated. This vulnerability anyhow affects all models and firmwares. I can't tell you more about this.
Since this bug is VERY serious I have yet to decide what to do with it. If Apple is interested I think they know my email address. If they are not... well they will know sooner or later.
Looks like someone is looking for a job at Apple? Haha. Keep rockin' Zibster!
How to fix iPhone Blue Screen Of Death due to iTunes 8

Apple Counters PwnageTool In iTunes 8, Patches Coming
The DevTeam said many times before that Apple cannot the bug they've exploited in PwnageTool unless they change the hardware, which is impossible until the next iPhones come out. While this is still true, Apple managed to have iTunes 8 detect and prevent the Pwnage exploit.
But hey, this is not gonna stop the DevTeam:
The nice thing about iTunes decisions is that we can provide you with patches to counter them. We have one such patch already for Mac iTunes 8 for iPod touch. We’ll be working out the full suite of patches for all the combinations over the next week.
Next Version of iPhone Tunnel Suite
There has been quite a bit of noise around iPhone Tunnel Suite lately, and it seems it's not gonna stop as iMakkie wrote today on his blog that a new version of iPhone Tunnel Suite is in the works.
From iMakkie:
In the next version you will see everything that now you see (iTunnel, iConnect, ecc…), im also thinking of making a custom firmware with custom payloads (like OpenSSH) so that the ones who really cant download it from the device will also be able to use it.
Also looking at your emails i’ve seen that you want to connect to the internet on your device using the tunnel and the pc connection, this is actually possible anyway, right now its very difficult.
So there are two options:
1. I can try to insert the connection trough pc. 2. I can develop an Offline Installer / Cydia, that works as the installer / cydia do on your device and install the apps directly trough the iTunnel.
Personally, I would love to see iPhone Tunnel in Cydia and use it as a tethering tool. Right now it is possible to use iPhone Tunnel for tethering but it's just too complicated to set up.
In the meantime, iMakkie says he is already working on the new version which will have a new GUI.

iPhone firmware 2.1 coming friday
At his Let's Rock event, Steve Jobs announced that a new iPhone firmware 2.1 will be made available for download this friday.
Steve Jobs called it a "big" update but seeing what this update will bring, it looks to me like the usual "bug fixes" update...Here is what Steve had to say about the new 2.1 iPhone and iPod Touch firmware:
no crashes with applications - Oh, thanks Steve, you're too generous... fewer dropped calls - never had any issue with that. This means they will update the baseband big battery improvement - Hmm, I heard that before... faster backups - ok, cool, what else? that's itYou will ask: "what about this fucking copy/paste I've been waiting for since June 29, 2007?" Well my friend, no word about this. Now, if Apple had added copy/paste or push notification, THAT would have been a "BIG" update. To me this update should have been 2.0.3 and not 2.1.
I highly recommend you wait for the DevTeam to come up with a new Pwnage tool before upgrading - that is for users with jailbroken iPhones, of course!
Live coverage of Apple’s “Let’s Rock” event
The following websites will be covering the long awaited "Let's Rock" event live:

iPhone Tunnel Suite gets many updates
Since I wrote about iPhone tunnel Suite 2.5 last week, a lots have been going on for this useful little application as iMakkie has been updating a couple times.
iPhone Tunnel Suite 2.6 - 09/06/08
Added Features:
You can kill iTunnel and iConnect processes by clicking the X buttons. iConnect window its not appearing anymore. A new notify icon that show iTunnel and iConnect status. You can switch device by right-clicking the notify icon!iPhone Tunnel Suite 2.7 - 09/07/08
Bug fix Little Updates Now iTunnel auto-start if not started and needed! Why all these updates? Either iMakkie is very bored, or he wants us (and me!) to talk about iPhone Tunnel Suite and create a buzz. I believe he doesn't have much to do and he is on top of listening to his users who report about minor bugs. Good job, iMakkie!
I yet have to work on a tutorial on how to use iPhone Tunnel Suite but I've been kinda busy lately (moving to a new house with Tina).
On his blog, iMakkie also posted a mockup for what couple the possible UI of iPhone Tunnel Suite 3.0. You can see this mockup below.
Why jailbreak your iPhone
BigBoss, as usual, has a very interesting post on his blog about the reasons why you would jailbreak your iPhone. I wrote many posts about jailbreaking your phone and you may see most of them here. I will sum this up the reasons why you would want jailbreak your iPhone but I invite you to read his full post.

I have 76 iPhone 3G for sale
Well, I don't. But the DevTeam posted this morning that"Duchess", a DevTeam member was so upset with the lack of 3G unlock she went around and bought up all the available SIM-free 3G handsets in her town.
I wouldn't want to pay her credit card bill...
From the DevTeam:
NB: This is NOT any cryptic update on 3G unlock progress, just a cool photo from one of our members, so conspiracy theorists please replace your tin-foil hats ;) We are still working on the 3G unlock as hard as we can.
