TinyUmbrella Updated Again, Adds iOS 4.3 and iPad 2 Support

Now that the official version of iOS 4.3 has been released, @notcom has released an updated version of TinyUmbrella to support the new firmware.

In addition to iOS 4.3 support, the updated TinyUmbrella (version 4.30.00) also brings iPad 2 support for all models (WiFi, CDMA, and GSM), and a new tweak requested by the creator of Cydia, @Saurik. Notcom also mentions that users who do not update to the latest version of TinyUmbrella, may experience significant slowness when saving their SHSH blobs in the future...

iOS 4.3 Reveals Next-Generation iPhone 5 Will Have a Dual-Core A5 Processor

With the official release of iOS 4.3 today, Chronic-Dev Team member, @chronic has been digging deep into the code and has found some new details regarding the next-generation iPhone.

Looking deeper into the iOS 4.3 code reveals that the next-generation iPhone 5 will sport the same dual-core Apple A5 processor as the upcoming iPad 2. The devs have found references to a device with the model number N94AP, which supposedly is the next-generation iPhone 5. Taking a look inside the N94AP kernel reveals the model number "S5L8940", which happens to be the same model number as the A5 processor chip inside the iPad 2...

Bad News About the iPhone 4 Unlock

If you're one of those people patiently waiting for an unlock for iPhone 4 other than baseband 01.59.00, we've got some bad news for you.

According to a recent tweet from Dev Team frontman MuscleNerd, it is taking longer than expected to get the unlock figured out. With the official release of iOS 4.3 earlier today, the Dev Team most likely encountered new bumps on their road to unlock...

iOS 4.3 Brings iTunes Home Sharing

We announced earlier today that iOS 4.3 is now available to download. Among many of the new features highlighted by Steve Jobs and company during the iPad 2 announcement last week, was iTunes Home Sharing.

This will give you the ability to stream music from your iTunes library, to any iDevice in range of your WiFi. This is different than Remote, an iOS application by Apple, that lets you control iTunes playback on your computer with your iPhone. So what's the advantage of iTunes Home Sharing? That's easy....

iOS 4.3 is Now Live

As we reported yesterday, iOS 4.3 became available for download today at 10 A.M. PST.iOS 4.3 is available for iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iTouch 4G and 3G. Oh and I almost forgot, iOS 4.3 is for GSM iPhone only. That means that if you have a Verizon iPhone, then no iOS 4.3 for you!

As a reminder, jailbroken iPhone users, please stay away from the new firmware until the official 4.3 jailbreak has been announced. The new software could potentially disable some of your jailbroken applications.

With several jailbreak methods already working on beta versions of iOS 4.3, an official jailbreak can't be too far off. That being said, the long awaited iPhone 4 unlock shouldn't be too far off. As always stay tuned to iDB for the latest in jailbreaking information...

No iOS 4.3 Update Until Tomorrow?

We reported earlier today that Apple's iOS 4.3 would be available for download at 10:00 A.M. PST. Well that time has come and gone and MacRumors is reporting that the early release will actually occur tomorrow. They've posted  a screen shot (see above) from one of their MacRumors readers, chatting with an Apple representative.

The screen shot confirms what LoopInsight reported this morning: there is to be no iOS 4.3 release today. But the speculation of iOS coming early still seems to be solid, it's just been off by a day. We will definitely let you know as soon as the download goes live, or if anything else breaks in this story...

iOS 4.3 to Be Available at 10 PST Today?

According to Boy Genius Report, iOS 4.3 will be available today at 10AM PST. That's a full three days before it was expected to be available, but the earlier the better if you ask me.

The folks at Apple said that it would be available on the day of the iPad's 2 launch -- March 11th, but I guess they decided it would be best to stagger the release date a bit.

One of the positive aspects regarding an early release is that this will give the jailbreak community even more time to jump on providing a jailbreak and solving the ASLR issues surrounding Apple's latest firmware...

Warning! Jailbreakers Should Hold off on March 11 iOS 4.3 Update

BigBoss posted on his blog yesterday that if you enjoy using jailbroken tweaks such as winterboard and sbsettings, hold off on the big March 11th update. It's always a cardinal rule to wait for the new jailbreak before updating to Apple's new firmware, this time he says, use extra precaution.

Apple will be using ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization) in its new iOS , which BigBoss says will damage the way mobile substrate works. It looks like the 4.3 jailbreak is going to need a patched mobile substrate file. Mobile substrate is just a few dynamic libraries of code in your iPhone's OS (like windows .dll files)...

Apple Urges Users to Purchase Ringtones in iOS 4.3

Buy More Tones. That's an order. At least that's what Apple's saying in iOS 4.3 GM.

I've always despised the fact that people continue to buy ringtones via iTunes, keeping it relevant. It's so easy to make them yourself, why would anyone pay a dollar to download a snippet of a song they most likely already own?

Personal bias aside, there's no doubt that ringtones are a big money maker these days, though it must not be bringing in enough coin to satisfy Apple -- going by the verbiage contained in iOS 4.3 GM...

How to Jailbreak iPhone 4.3 GM with PwnageTool Bundles

Apple's new iOS 4.3 software will launch officially March 11th. For App Store developers iOS 4.3 GM edition (final) is available now. This tutorial will show you step by step how to  jailbreak your iPhone 4.3 GM Edition with PwnageTool Bundles. Unlike the plug and play ease of GreenPoison, this method will require a few extra steps, but nothing too difficult.

These instructions are for mac OS X users only, but a windows jailbreak shouldn't be too far off. This is also a tethered jailbreak, meaning that every time you restart your iPhone, you will need to be plugged into your computer. It's also important to note that although this is the final beta release, it is still a beta, so please proceed accordingly.  Now on to the tutorial!

TinyUmbrella Updated with iOS 4.3 GM Support

The developer behind the popular firmware umbrella tool, @notcom, has recently updated TinyUmbrella for Mac and Windows.

The new update (version 4.21.13) brings iOS 4.3 GM support as well as uses your system proxy settings when launching the TinyUmbrella loader.

iOS 4.3 Detects Previously Purchased Apps That Haven’t Been Installed

Another new feature has been uncovered in the new iOS 4.3 GM release, courtesy of 9to5 Mac.

The new feature allows the App Store to scan your Apple account for previously purchased apps that aren't installed on your device yet. In the App Store, applications that aren't yet installed but have been purchased before, will show “INSTALL” next to them, instead of the app price.
