Spotify launches Release Radar, a personalized playlist of newest releases updated weekly

Spotify RElease Radar

In an effort to differentiate and further distance itself from Apple Music, Swedish music startup Spotify on Friday announced Release Radar, a new music discovery feature that provides personalized playlists of the newest releases, akin to Apple’s “For You” section. The playlist is updated weekly, every Friday.

The convenient playlist brings all of your new favorite music, “without any of the effort that goes into searching for the latest gems.”

The Release Radar playlist is personalized for each Spotify user, based on their favorite artists, listening habits and other parameters. The playlist contains up to two hours of the latest releases from the artists you follow and listen to the most, plus some new tracks Spotify thinks you might like based on your recent listening habits.

Needless to say, the more you listen to Release Radar, the better it gets. Like other playlists, Release Radar is available across platforms and devices and can be shared and made available offline.

“With the huge amount of new music released every week, it can be difficult to keep up with the latest tracks,” says Matt Ogle, Senior Product Owner at Spotify.

“With Release Radar, we wanted to create the simplest way for you to find all the newly released music that matters the most to you, in one playlist.”

This new feature is rolling out today on Spotify via a New Releases for You section within Discover on mobile and desktop. Release Radar shouldn’t be confused with New Music Friday, which connects you with hot new artists you may not know about yet.
