Seas0nPass

If you have an Apple TV 2 running the latest firmware—iOS 7.1.2—then you’ll be happy to hear that you can now jailbreak using FireCore’s well-regarded Seas0npass tool. Unfortunately this jailbreak is of the tethered variety, but outside of the initial hassle, that doesn’t matter much for something like a set top box that’s almost always powered on.

FireCore quietly released a beta update to Seas0npass, which comes in at version 0.9.7. This update works with OS X El Capitan and Apple TV 2 firmware 6.2.1 (iOS 7.1.2).

Interestingly, the crew at FireCore decided to bypass updating their blog, which houses all of their previous jailbreak stuff, and posted an update to their Seas0nPass tool on GitHub. You can find the download for Seas0nPass 0.9.7 via our downloads page.

To jailbreak your device using Seas0nPass 0.9.7, follow our Seas0npass tethered jailbreak video tutorial:

In this video, we show you step-by-step how to jailbreak using the tethered jailbreak tool from FireCore.

Do you still own an Apple TV 2? I have to be honest and state that I sold mine back in the summer. I’m kind of over 720p, which is what the Apple TV 2 is limited to. Still, this device is awesome for its ability to be jailbroken, while the Apple TV 3 still has yet to be compromised.

  • @dappa_yute

    great … 🙂

  • kron1k 

Because you know 720p is sooooo horrible…….

    • Well, it really is on 100″ screen.

        OHHHH

      • RedSymphony

        Straight uppercut lol

        AND A ROUNDHOUSE KICK

      • Ned Scott

Well, no. A ton of content is only 720, and uses upscalers to go any higher, which any decent TV will handle for you. Even the 1080 versions of that content are simply upscaled from the 720 source. There’s also a massive library of SD content that will never have an HD version. Plus, TV size means nothing without knowing viewing distance.

Apple TV 2 in 2015? Apple TV 4 is dropping in a few days! Don’t want to be a troll but people step your game up!

    • Blip dude

What the f*** for?? I mean, yeah, I do plan on buying the ATV for during the holidays, but what’s the big deal about watching 720p content on a 65″ 1080p TV?? Really?? Care to explain what I’m missing out besides clearer content and a huge chunk of my bandwidth being taken away for only one device??Seriously wondering why everyone is jumping ship on 4K when it’s just going to be even cheaper 12-18 months from now.

      • Don Walker II

Every 4 to 6 months previously current technology becomes obsolete. I guess you just have to chose a time that works for you to buy in. I say if you want to spend the money, go ahead! If you want a curved 80″ 6K 3D television and you can afford it, why not? If you like getting up to tune the channel on your CRT B&W TV with no stereophonic sound, why change it? If you want a Koenigsegg Agera R and you can afford, it why not! If you’re satisfied with getting from A-B in your Model-T Ford, so be it.

      • jgr627

I agree with you 100% I’m just saying that in terms of Apple TV and jailbrake it’s pointless. With air play which I’m sure anybody with an Apple TV automatically has some form of an iDevice the JB isn’t necessary anymore

    • Don Walker II

*Pulls out fully functional original iPhone* You were saying…?

      • jgr627

That’s what’s up, I have the original iPhone one fully functional as well but I would never trade that old school phone for my current 6s plus!

  • Hotrod

Firecore is struggling to stay relevant it seems, I replaced my second GEN Apple TV’s a long time ago with Amazon fire TV’s and it was the best thing I ever did

    • That_Fruitarian

That’s the best thing you’ve ever done? Bummer!!!

      • Hotrod

I was trying to be nice & leave your stepsister out of this…she was slightly better

      • Vince Reedy

        OOOOHHHHHH

      • White Michael Jackson

        LMAOOOO

    • Tko

I bought a FireTV as well. Although superior to the AppleTV2 in just about every way, I still use my AppleTV2. It packs quite a punch with it being jailbroken. The 720p really is not a deal breaker by any means. Unless your pushing a 70″ screen on every TV in your house I would say…maybe upgrade..but lets be honest, most people are not. I have my AppleTV on my 40″ screen and my FireTV on a 42′ screen and there is no difference in picture. If you can get one cheap, buy it, jailbreak and cut the cord.

    • I’m about to get the new FireTV. I had waited sooooo long to get the new AppleTV, but with the lack of current technology, I’ll just get the device that will actually work with future technology. It also had the new H.265 codec and that was the dealbreaker for me with the aTV.
Maybe in 2018 we’ll get a 4k aTV though? ha

      • White Michael Jackson

Wait what are some of the benefits? Does it do airplay? Don’t worry I will check online too. I just never thought about getting one until I read these comments.

      • Rowan09

I own one and it does have some application to do AirPlay but I’ve never really tried it. The huge issue with the fire tvs and sticks (I sell them fully loaded) is the minimal 5 GB you have for storage. The new fire tv has a micro sd slot to aid this deficiency but come on. If the new Apple TV allows side load any app, it will be far more superior to the fire tv especially since it actually has hard drive space (16 and 32GB I believe). The only thing with this fire tv is 4K support which is still not a deal breaker in 2015 due to 4K not being really supported now or anytime in the near future.

    • Rowan09

I could have sworn I heard they gave up development for the ATV 2 (Kodi team). Check online.

      • suttonmontreal

Thanks for the info. so whats the point of having an apple tv 2 jailbroken. Do you know any other way to add what used to be Kodi or XBMC i mean have all the ice films and other stuff

      • Rowan09

No I don’t sorry. I owned an ATV 2 but it broke before I got into jail breaking it.

  • VICTORIA GARCÍA

  • VICTORIA GARCÍA

HOW TO JAILBRAKE THE AMAZON FIRE TV, ANY HELP HERE??

    • Toshke

      Troll much?

  • coLin

He’s talking about a projector not a screen (if you listen their podcasts)

    • kron1k 

Yeah and….I don’t think I really thought he had a 100″ screen. You know he’d have that on every video if he did.

  • Rowan09

I must say Apple actually created an impenetrable device with the ATV 3, it’s amazing it could not be hacked. Leave ATV 4 open to side load apps and bye bye to the fire tv, etc.

    • Gary LE

Why bye bye to ftv2? I am about to sideload kodi and then add on some wizard packages so I can get to watch free movies, sports etc…

      • Rowan09

I have it and love it but if I can choose the Apple TV 4 doing what it can I would choose it over the ftv 2. The space thing is my biggest issue and the wifi range isn’t that great when compared the my ATV 3

    • the reason it can’t be hacked is because the tool relies on the A4 processor. Heard of LimeRa1n? It’s only for Apple’s A4 devices and because of that one exploit every A4 device is jailbreakable forever. But, the LimeRa1n exploit was fixed with the new A5 chip.

      A4 devices: iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4, iPad 1, Apple TV 2.

      A5 devices: iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 5, iPad 2/3/Mini 1, Apple TV 3.

      • Rowan09

Still it was never hacked and that’s a feat in itself.

  • G.Dash

Ok but how do u get KODI on a jail broken Apple TV 2 now

  • Micke på taket

IF the Apple tv 3 unbreakable,, Why doesnt Apple use tjat kinda setup for its devices?

  • Kenneth Delgado

No AppleTV 3 jailbreak still? And, ATV 4 is on the way. WTF?

  • lookHOWMADheis

JEFF YOU HAVE LIKE 15 OF EVERYTHING, LET ME BUY SOMETHING FROM YOU LOL

  • I am still using an AppleTV 2. 😛 This jailbreak works perfect. First try. No issues, so far.

    • Roi

What software do you have on your apple TV? I’m finding it difficult for some reason to upgrade mine…. I have 2 apple TV’s, running 7.2 and 7.0.1 as mentioned in their settings-general-about….

      • iOS 7.1.2, aka aTV 2 firmware 6.2.1. Just Plug it into your computer and restore to get the latest firmware.

  • baddestsammaritan

Hopefully they’ll roll out an untethered version. Will hold fire for that.

Does anyone else have issues with AirPlay on Apple TV2 previous jailbreak version? And HuluPLUS not working either. Anyone got a fix?

  • Jacob S

F*k Apple TV, I recently switched to Amazon Fire TV latest version. Being a Prime member I have ton of videos to select from plus a lot of 4k contents. Also now I can stream 4k videos from youtube! I have pulled the cord of Apple TV 3rd gen and a big No for upcoming Apple TV release…

  • Josh Sowers

I see no reason to even bother with this .. as long as you have your iPad or iPhone jailbroken .. with AirPlay now a days .. who needs or even want a to bother with jailbreaking the Apple TV .. it’s not even needed with the lovely feature of AirPlay …. sure makes Cartoon HD and Moviebox and Showbox and popcorn time and good ole Kodi welllllll worth Installing !!! I love it … who needs Netflix and redbox and Amazon anymore .. and fkkkk the cable company also !!!

My Computer is another room then my television I cannot leave it plugged into my computer and plug it in to my TV at the same time what can I do then?
My Mac is not a laptop

  • Phil Gamboa

I have issues getting this to work. I’ve tried on two Mac Laptops (El Capitan), fails every time. The last time a re-jailbraked my ATV2 successfully was on my wife’s Mac Book Air. After 3 hours, finally decided to try a Windows machine. And of course, it worked. I don’t know why my MBP’s can JB.

    • this Seas0nPass version is Mac only.

  • BMore710

I updated my ATV 2 to the latest firmware of 6.2.1 but when I use Seas0nPass it puts back 5.3….is anyone else having this issue?
